I've been waiting for Raymond to get a cold so I could try the trick that I heard back in the summer. It worked! Rub Vicks Vapor Rub on the feet not on the chest. Then I heard it again on the news last night.

I did try my instant read cooking thermometer out to see if I was running a fever - LOL! I wasn't and it was close enough.
But I did buy a digital thermometer anyway. Somewhere in my house is some mercury just itchin' to be free.....

Awwwww Teresa. I'm sorry.

I'm still coughing but not 'producing' so I'm not on antibiotics, which I hate. DH got a $$$ inhaler - steroids - Flovent? which he said he isn't sure helped. He was also on prednisone and he swears by Robitussin.

I'm mostly weak. I run an errand, or do carpool, and crawl back to bed. I am making dnner tonight, though, two nights of take out was enough!

Oh a trick I learned with the instant read thermometer - sit in front a mirror and figure out the numbers. I found that if I took it out of my mouth to look (shut up), it started declining too fast.

All of you, I hope you feel better and soon!

Just come up to Chicago or to Michigan and the cold weather will freeze those nasty bug viruses right out of you.

Sinus infections are just awful.

When I'm sick I always like to have my tea in a pretty china teacup. It just gives me a lift! I am picturing you with one of your pink transferware cups...

Or maybe I would make that tea a Hot Irish:

Hot Irish recipe
1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
4 oz boiling water
1/2 slice lemon
1 pinch ground cinnamon

Pour into a heat-proof goblet, sweeten with brown sugar (to taste), and serve.

My grandmother used to drink them. She added cloves to a whole lemon, though. She probably left out the water, too. The "aromatics" help!

Maggie, that Hot Irish sounds pretty good and I don't even drink the stuff, but I do have some left over from making Irish Whiskey Cake. That would stop the coughing fits.

You bet I'm watching Top Chef. My impression so far is that these chefs are maybe not up to the caliber of the previous seasons. Lots of "characters" on this season. I was a little surprised that they sent Ariane packing, but as they said, each elimination is judged on its own, not how the chefs did in other elimination challenges.

Oh, I forgot I might be spoiling the end for those on the west coast.

Teresa, I'm sorry to hear that you are still under the weather. Hopefully the drugs will kick in soon and you will be back to normal. I hate these types of colds/bugs/infections that morph into something else and linger for weeks.

Yes, Jessy - Tussionex Pennkenetic (sp.?) The prednisone and antibiotic leave such a bad taste in my mouth I have to psych myself up and have a bite of something ready to get the taste out before I take the pills. I'm such a wimp....

Jessy congrats ont he "green"...in the future when you get something that makes you feel horrible for forever, ask...no DEMAND a throat culture. Chances are you have a bacterial infection and need an antibiotic.
Now take some guyafenacin, skip the Robotussin( it contains guyafenacin) and drink drink drink!...water lemonade more water and then you can have a glass fo wine!

Ahhh, the crud. Nothing quite like it.

We got this email at work today:

There appears to be some increase in nausea, vomiting and diarrhea at some of our area nursing homes. This a public health alert that I received in December I am resending and expanding the list of recipients to include ancillary departments. It seems that this virus may have reached our Community. Please share the information with your staff. An increase in employee sick call outs reporting N/V/D should be reported to Infection Control. This virus usually makes folks miserable for a few days. This virus is sometimes called the "cruise-ship virus", it can be very contagious, hand washing is the best line of prevention, even in your home! Employees with diarrhea should not come to work.

Oh yeah -- please, if you've got the runs -- stay home.

And to all those people on my hall at the office: if you are coughing your head off for weeks on end or sneezing every few minutes, do us all a favor and go see a doctor, then stay home until you are well!!!

Hey at least I don't have stomach flu!!!!!! Now THAT is incapacitating.

I have another nasty cough and this time I'm trying 'Tessalon Perle' aka Benzonatate. $13.00 for 50 capsules, four per day. So far so good!

I'm doing better -- been sick since January. I'm down to just a cough, morning headache and stuffy nose.

Jessy, I'm on the Tessalons, too. Along with inhaler and a few other things. When will this ever end????

Jessy and dlynn, I'm so sorry to hear you have been sick this winter. I dodged the bullet early on but ended up with an upper bronchial thing in January. Thank heavens for the Wellness Clinic nurse who got me on a z-pack antibiotic, good old prednisone, and ta dah! an inhaler. I only missed one day of work this time instead of weeks at a time.

Now I'm trying to fend off a co-worker's sore throat. We wipe down everything whenever we switch off on the reception desk. And now, there is a stomach virus going around in our area - nasty but short lived.

Thank goodness I haven't had anything since last fall when I got H1N1, except this stupid rash on my face.

Today I got antibiotics, some kind of sulfur based face wash and we'll see, but I feel fine. Look kind of ugly, but I feel fine, LOL.

Jessica and dlynn, I hope you both feel better soon...

DH came down with something nasty on Tuesday, starting in his throat and moving down into his chest today, with fever. He has the luxury of sick days at work. I'm crossing my fingers I don't get it, cause I won't be able to take time off work right now - it's springtime, which is our busy season, and no work, no pay. Poor DH, though, when he's sick, he suffers. He's had pneumonia before, so we have to be very careful when he gets sick. The clinic was concerned enough to do xrays, and his lungs were clear. I'm hoping they stay that way. He has antibiotics, an inhaler, some kind of mouthwash, and cough medicine, so I think he's set - all he needs is time to heal.

Jessy and DLynn, I hope y'all get better quickly. It's no fun being sick.
