In the central food market of Valencia, Spain, some opera singers were dressed as shopkeepers selling fruits and vegetables.

When fragments of La Traviata came over the loudspeaker system, they began to sing.

Watch the faces of the shoppers.

Well you know you had ME hyperventilating from the get-go. Those are some hot looking Escamillos! Can I put in a request for the 'Anvil Chorus' or.....The Mad Scene from Lucia? LOL, Arley. I'm not an opera fan but Elery is, so I'm going to show this to him, he'll love it. One of the local malls here often has a piano player on Saturdays. The older gentleman who accompanies the pianist sometimes gives impromptu waltz lessons to willing bystanders, and that's kind of fun. Annie

Can you bottle that energy & send it down here? Wow! My mom sounds like yours except she waited too long to go see a dr & did end up in the hospital with the kidney infection. I spent a few days with her & came home tired. Couldn't even think of making the whirlwind tour of the country you did. Congratulations on the new son-in-law. Don't envy you having to put a wedding together though.

Interesting. It's so tough to know what to do in this market. As a realtor I obviously want things to improve, but as a buyer (we're out of the market right now), I would quite like to buy. I do think that there is a pent up demand because I am part of it! : ) Prices have not fallen here anything like as much as I would have expected, and prices are still up from 2005. I wonder if that means we are just trailing behind other areas, or if it means that we are just a stronger market for whatever reason. I think we'll give it another few months and see what the outlook is. It's also tough to advise clients what to do. Both buyers and sellers. They are looking to the agents as experts, and most of us have no clue what is going to happen either. This sucks.

Oh Sharon, that was such a treat. I love the way the shoppers formed a "theater in the round." What fun!!

I wish they would do this at the Reading Terminal Mkt in Philadelphia.

Love it Love it!! It's a growing phenomonon called a Flash Mob. Do a search on youtube there are several.

I think opera companies world wide should pull this stunt, they could sure use the increase in subscribers!

I would love to see Alagna and Gheorghiu pull this off, heh heh

What I thought was charming was the participant who at the very end raised the sign..."Â¿ves como te gusta la Ã³pera?"
which means in the sense of..."You see - You DO really like opera!"

I'm sure they touched many people there who had never heard those arias before so it is good publicity.

It seems like opera is becoming trendy.
Has anyone seen that UK program Popstar to Opera Star? Some of the pops singers are very surprised at how singing opera is physically very, very different.
