We said goodbye to my sweet Cinnamon

My sweet Cinnamon kitty is no longer suffering from cancer. It was a difficult decision, but one we had to make. She and I had a special relationship. I was her person, and she was a dear companion to me. I've never seen a kitty with such beautiful green eyes, nor fur as soft as hers. She loved to head butt me, and when I came home from work, she'd be there to greet me.

I was able to leave work early yesterday, and take her outside in the sunshine to feel the sun and smell the breeze. I'm so thankful it was such a nice day so that we could do that.

Although she had spunk and was a fighter for life, I'm sure it was the right thing to do, as she was clearly starting to hurt and suffer indignities that cats just don't like. Last summer I posted about her when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Y'all were kind to me and full of encouragement, so I thought I'd let you all know that her battle is over and she's at peace.

Catherine im so sorry for your loss :-( I love chickens as pets and we had ducks too. I love that special little soft cluck they make just when they're with you. They are so soft to cuddle too. Silky feathers. She couldn't have had a better friend than you and im so sorry for your loss of such a dear friend. At least her suffering is over and you always did the best you could for her. It's heartbreaking to lose a feline member of the family. Shonen was gorgeous. He will live forever in your heart and memory. Give yourself time to grieve, and try to hang on to the fact that you took such good care of him and helped him pass softly into that great goodnight. Thank you for sharing the photos. Thanks for all of your kind words...it's so hard to lose them..her bowl is still sitting where I left for her last meal. It broke my heart because Tasha always went and checked Sadie's bowl after meals...she did that this morning after her breakfast and then realized what she had done. We are all really struggling. I know it gets easier with time. It's just so raw right now. I managed to take Tasha for a walk this morning and was thankful no neighbors were out to ask about Sadie. I saw Tasha dreaming on the couch this afternoon and saw her tail start wagging. I really hope she got a visit from Sadie..she misses her best friend so much, as do my hubby and I.

Thank you so much for all of the kind thoughts. The house just doesn't seem....right. Funny how grief works - I couldn't stand for her bed to stay ( donated immediately) but still have not been able to bring myself to pick up her "chicken towel" or food bowl. I know it's all part of the process and that this ache in my heart is part of what makes life so very precious. Joy is all the sweeter when one has walked intimately with sorrow. Our sweet Sammy doesn't like spending as much time out back anymore - he goes to potty but doesn't linger too long - it was his job to escort the Princess around the perimeter when out back. He seems very lost without her. Sad with us. She rescued Sam. She was the last of our 4 rescues that we couldn't say no to, and when we lost our Ridgeback in Oct 2011, we felt it was only appropriate that she chose her new companion. It was a unique situation because we could not take her to adopt a pets due to her health ( she had a disease when young the left her unable to to be vaccinated without lethal results). We connected with a rescue that brought several dogs to us for Tasha to meet and she ultimately chose our Sammy boy - who had no clue how to dog. She had no problems showing him the ropes and they were thick as thieves. As Sunday rituals go, Tasha ALWAYS knew Sunday - it was park day. In more recent days we didn't always make it that far, but we always went that direction and the days we did make it - we always walked the trails. She loved it - Sam hated it. We have tried to keep routine normal for Sam - and so, with honor in our hearts this morning, we turned left instead of right and made our way to the park. Sam knew this was a special walk of sorts this morning and as we made our way in, he headed for the trails, where he stopped and sniffed more than he has since her passing ( she taught him to smell everything!! Kinda funny coming from a sharpei - she was trained by a beagle) It was bittersweet. We are all missing her. Thought I would share a few more shots of my lil girl ( and her boy Sam)

I'm sure she will add spice to the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. I'm so sorry for the lost of your companion. May memories of her purrs lull you to sleep.

It's sad that pets do not live as long as people, but at least you had her for several years. I definitely understand your pain at this time.

Sally, I'm so sorry to hear about Cinnamon. I know how hard it is to make a decision that's difficult for us but is the right thing for the animals we love and which look to us to take care of them.

Hugs to you, Cinnamon had a good life with you and knew she could rely on you and you did not let her down.

Oh Sally, I'm so sorry. I cried like a baby when I had to have my Sheena put to sleep. I'm so sorry for the loss of Cinnamon, but you gave each other a lot to enjoy.

Thank you so much, everyone. I've been at work all afternoon, then had my night of cleaning cat cages at the local cat rescue that Pet Smart hosts, so I'm just now getting back to the forum. The volunteer work tonight was good therapy. You all are good therapy, too. I appreciate your kind words and support.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Sally. Losing a pet is such a wrench. Our Mischief has just had a spleenectomy to try to slow down her cancer but we know her days are numbered :-(
I hope your happy memories of Cinnamon will give you comfort.
