What a nice gift, to get your home all freshly painted! This is the perfect time to clear out unused stuff. I have boxes of stuff still unpacked from our move here 10 years ago! LOL I need to do some "de-junking" too!

Teresa, sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my Mom last Spring, right after she turned 93. She had a long and pretty good life but I miss her terribly.

The gift of painting your house is such a unique and wonderfully uplifting present. Cleaning out your sewing studio ~ yikes! :)

The kitchen will be "squish-squash" yellow, the laundry room "von courtland blue" (a blue gray), the sewing studio is a "harbor haze" pale blue, my bedroom is "whythe blue" a medium sagey blue green with the bathroom "palladian blue" a lighter sagey blue green.

The hall will be "bavarian cream" because it is the darkest part of the house. The spare room is "harvest time" a light gold; the living room is "dunmore cream" a sort of flax/wheat color with "cotton balls" white trim on the woodwork and mantel and dark "knoxville gray" on the fireplace surround and front door. The dining room is "dried parsley" a light yellow green. These are all Benjamin Moore paints; I love the names BM gives many of their paint colors.

I was so fortunate to have my niece and sister (two professional decorators) help with choosing the colors. I know what I like, but never learned much about the Do's and Don'ts of home dec. Most of the ceilings will be lighter shades of the wall colors. This will make a huge difference in not only the look of my house, but the way I feel about it.

I'm sorry to hear that this is going to be a difficult time for you saying goodbye to your father. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. It's never easy, but I do believe that it's truly a beginning to the next chapter of life.

Can you Skype those new baby photos in to him?

I would think seeing pictures of "his first great-grand child" would be a great boost to his mental state...what a life's milestone.

And your newly painted house will certainly be a boost for you. That's great that you had help with the color selection. I have an open floor plan and coordinating the colors has held me back from painting.

My dad died peacefully this morning at 10:15 am with his family and caregivers by his bedside. He will be greatly missed by many.

(Regarding paint: we have whythe blue in our entryway. It is an amazing color, unlike any I have ever seen! Watch the ceilings, we went 'half strength' on the wall color, and it still looks like 'full' saturation, which is what we wanted. Lighting etc.!)

Teresa I am so very, very sorry about your Father. Another one here who lost her Dad at the age of 89 just over a year ago. I still think about him every single day.

I just wanted to send my condolences to you and your family. My dad passed just over 4 years ago, yet I feel his presence daily. What a gift that he was able to pass peacefully amongst those close to him.
