You must have some Lancifolia or Undulata in there. If there is a viable piece of crown material in the soil they will regenerate. If you till them without getting the crown material out it won't matter. You could sift the soil to get all the white crown material out. Or a few drops (notice I said drops not spray) of Round Up will kill em. Steve

Changing weather conditions(drought/excess rains/etc.) will cause soil movement. Which will cause cracks in foundations previously not affected. Our 1965 built house had three major cracks in the foundation three years ago for those reasons. I've repaired them and no more problems. The ceiling cracks may be from the soil shifting or from truss stress. One way to minimize that problem is to nail the molding to either the wall /top plate or the truss members, but not both. Then caulk with a silicon caulk that does not cure hard.
