Sites not responding because if a long running script PC slow

I have a Dell Inspirion desk top using the windows 7 operating system whenever I try to connect sites such as this one I get a message at bottom of page saying sites is not responding because of a long running script sometimes I can connect most time I can,t. Using the stop script feature that appears with this message does nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Iggie

I have a theory about this, but I would like to respond after receiving the answer to this question: How much memory does your computer have?

So you tried with IE, Firefox, and Chrome ? Usually the first thing you'd try is disabling all the add-ons and extensions - and I would indeed try that - see if one of them is interfering. But if it's happening with every browser then that's a less likely suspect - unless you have the same bad add-on or too many add-ons with every browser. Other than that, you want to look for something that's tying up the cpu, or using too much memory. While you're waiting on someone better qualified, have you read this? https://github.com/dadler/thumbnail-zoom/issues/166 I'm not sure the issue even gets resolved there but it does seem to point to your "Thumbnail Zoom Plus" extension. A corrupt Firefox profile? A conflict with another extension? Personally, I'd be tempted to disable all extensions except "Thumbnail Zoom Plus", see if the freezing goes away. If it did, I'd enable the other extensions one by one, testing along the way. On the other hand, If disabling all extensions except "Thumbnail Zoom Plus" didn't cause the freezes to go away, I'd maybe reset Firefox. If resetting didn't resolve the issue, I'd remove Firefox completely, including my profile, and reinstall it. I'm not a technician though, just saying what I might do. BTW, I just added Thumbnail Zoom Plus 3.1 to Firefox 32.0.3 to test and other than being a bit picky about how I move my mouse in to hover, it worked okay. Meaning no freezes or script errors. I'm on Linux though. If I were on Windows, I might consider the possibility of a conflict with my AV. Someone else could tell you whether or not that's a likelihood though. Opps, I's so slow I see Mikie already gave you good advice. I'll go ahead and submit it though... just in case something helps, say in the bug report I linked too.

I'll weigh in here as well. I use AOLwith Verizon wireless, which is quite slow. One of my pet peeves is an OP who load their initial posts with literally 30-50 pics of befores and afters. That's different from posts that gradulally acquire lots of pice because the long, multi-poster threads grow over time and usually some of the images are stored on my cache. But if you're an OP and think you need to display dozens of pictures, please park 'em on Photobucket so those of us with slower connections can have a hope of ever opening your thread. Because if the pages are too heavy they will time out before ever downloading. The other annoying thing I sometimes see is people with fancy cameras with high quality "heavy" images that the poster doesn't bother to take the trouble to lighten up before posting. Multiple images with 600-800K each can stop a thread from loading as easily as too many pics. There have been some popular threads that I have never been able to open at home simply because they are too picture-heavy. L.

I have a 2008 Dell desktop running Vista with 3 GB memory. It ran great until last year when it too began running slow with multiple script errors and has become unusable with either IE9 or Firefox. The multiple technologies that make web pages run these days (Flash/Java and whatever) plus the ever increasing need for security have...in my opinion...put a huge squeeze on computers with limited memory, especially computers running Windows. No offense, but trying to run Win7 with only 2 GB was already razor thin to begin with. New computers are routinely being offered with 8-12-16 GB for this reason....2-4 just isn't going to get it done any more. I fully expect my new Dell with 12 GB will be pushing the limits of what it can do in about 4 years.

A Win7 machine that was sold with 2 GB is probably running the 32-bit version of Windows, and that is also limiting you severely. I have had some luck running the Maxthon Browser on the old Dell. No guarantees, but you don't have much to lose by trying it. If you are stuck using your current setup, you're just going to continue having more problems. A light-weight Linux OS such as Xubuntu might extend the lifespan of this computer if you're willing to give it a go, but I don't recommend such things for the casual Windows user. Whenever you are able, a new Win8.1/10 would probably suit you much better.

Reset your Internet explorer back to default, hopefully you're running IE 11.

One thing I have not been seeing much of lately by OPs who are reporting browser connection concerns is a statement as to system clean up, particularly the target browser itself. I have corrected a concern for myself or others more than once by doing so.

Though not limited to, my first thought as to why is corrupt or expired cookies.
