1gb of ram is probably why.
Its used up and using the paging file, which equals... its using the paging file on your hard drive for a ram substitute.

You can resize your paging file up to 3x installed usable ram. You might look see what size it is.. and if you have plenty of hard drive space, make that paging file bigger.

But really really really.... you need more ram, especially with win7 ultimate, which I'm suprized you can even use.. is it 64bit?. Most say you need 3gb or more for 64bit.

It is 32 bit and I only have about 16 gb open of 105 on my hard drive. Increasing the RAM would help then?

RAM doesn't change hard drive space. You need more of both. Clear out some old stuff on your hard drive. You have less than 20% left and that amount is necessary for good performance. I would add another 2 GB of RAM.

I wouldn't delete any Windows files if I were you. You must have something stored. I have only a 79 GB hard drive, but have literally thousands of pictures stored and still have 39 GB free.

Run the disk cleanup .. right click your main c drive and choose properties.. then system files too. If it says old windows files.. its your old windows file.. you upgraded from xp? probably. Its that old xp files it saved just in case you needed something. Delete them !

System Restore also can be a hog if never cleaned. There is an option there too on clean up to delete all but the last system restore point.

If you don't have it installed, Ccleaner is very popular program.. run it at its default settings it might shock you with temporary files cleanup. sometimes that's big.

I have ccleaner and use it regularly. I upgraded from vista and will look for that in system restore as well as disc cleanup which I have used prior. Thanks will try all the above.

My guess is that this is a problem of both not enough RAM and a full hard drive.

Follow Mikie's disk cleanup suggestion, also delete cookies and cache in your browser if you don't use Internet Explorer.

If your PC has a card reader, a cheap and easy fix (no need to open anything up) is to use Windows Ready Boost with an SD card. Get an 8 or 16 GB SD card, at least Class 10. If no card reader, use a good quality (ie, not a cheapo) thumb drive. I think that will fix the problem for $15 or less.

Ram costs at like crucial.com is pretty cheap, they have a scanner to tell you whats available. Think Kingston.com does too.

Think I paid like 25 dollars for a 4gb ram module and under 40 dollars for 8gb & shipping was free few months back.

This laptop has 1 gb (2 @ 512mb actually) and says a max of 2 gb so I will upgrade the ram. I had mixed emotions on doing that with the hard drive dam near maxed out but now that I know I can dump the old windows files and clear more space I will up the ram as well. Thanks I realize I should probably get a newer laptop but it is not in the budget at the moment. What would happen if I were to but bigger ram modules than the limit states?

A page file is Windows using hard drive space as a "memory" (RAM) it's an essential function but hard drive access times are measured in milliseconds while true RAM access times are are measured in nanoseconds. While it works, it's like replacing an Olympic sprinter with you or me. ;-)

Max out the available physical memory. Bigger hard drives are relatively inexpensive. If you are looking for performance, then use a solid state drive.
