I was deadheading the roses when I photographed the last bloom on the Duchesse de Montebello, which was particularly luminescent (China heritage?). Phone can't really capture. Here she is in her glory -- Kathleen in background The pretty duchesse was the wife of the young & dashing General Jean Lannes, Napoleon's favorite general, who was given the victory title of Duke of Montebello after his victory in a battle of that name in Lombardy, Italy, in 1800. (Unlike his predecessors, Napoleon, whatever his faults, believed in rewarding people on the basis of merit, rather than birth, and he also instituted half-pay pensions for the military. This made him a favorite with liberals, including some breeders of roses.) Marechal Lannes died in battle in 1809. Below, his widow with their five children. (Please excuse my pedantry) .

Many years ago when I was in high school, it was the custom for boys to give their class ring to their girl friend to wear. My boyfriend’s ring was very large, but my hands are small. So I wore it on a chain like pictured at the very beginning of this thread. The ring’s band very quickly started deteriorating by abraiding and sliding around on the chain. I don’t know if his ring was exceptionally soft or not, but I learned my lesson about wearing a ring on a chain.

There are companies that provide digital map data - Navteq is one - but Google may do it themselves. No matter. I think you need to do a search for map support, you're probably limited to the means they disclose. I don't think there are other alternatives. I forgot - for one off visitors, you can also pin your location and then "share" it with them, using the visitor's email address. Digital maps always contain errors and idiosyncrasies. A comparative example - my house is in a gated community for which there's a daytime open front entrance and two always closed back entrances. Depending on the direction I'm coming from, often the easiest access for me is through one of the closed back entrances that operate with a garage door-type RF signal sent by a device or a programmed car button. But not always. The built in Nav system in my not inexpensive German brand car will not take me through the closer open entrance when that's the better choice. Instead, it suggests I drive around to what's the back side of the neighborhood to go through the gate that's closed to the public but that I can open. By contrast, when using Google Maps via Android Auto (same as Apple Car Play) in a different car, when coming from a direction that a back gate is the better choice, it insists I go out of my way to go to the open to the public front entrance. Two different systems, two idiosyncrasies with diametrically opposed consequences. One says one thing, one says the opposite. Once, when visiting the Champagne region of France, when innocently following my Garmin's directions to a center of town location from outside of town and not paying close attention, I realized as the road got unexpectedly narrow that it was routing me along a dirt road through vineyards. It was the shortest route to my destination! Needless to say, I turned around and went far enough in a different direction so that a more suitable route was suggested. Good luck to you, mtv.
