I live in New England, and I have a Grapefruit tree about the size of yours. I keep mine in full sun- I start bringing it out when the temps are in the upper sixties, and leave it out at night when the temps stay in the fifties. I recommend getting a good plant caddy to make moving it easier! My tree had a tough winter, but it's budded and the leaves are more vigorous; it's leafing out a lot more- same with my Meyer Lemon tree. Just remember to water well enough during hot weather. They seem to like that too. It sounds like you'll have enough light to carry it through winter. I use a clamp on light with a plant floodlight bulb (??) during December and January to give it a little help. (Go to your local home improvement store- these things are easy to find) A little Epsom salt in the water helps too, but only during active growth- early spring, I think around late February? The Kindle Fire runs a modified version of the Android O/S which is based on Linux. While viruses do exist, they are still relatively uncommon. There is anti-virus software for Android but I don't know if it would run on a Kindle. Frankly, I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about it. There have been a few instances of infected apps making there way into the Android Marketplace, which is policed nowhere nearly as carefully has Apple's App Store. While I haven't researched those specific apps, I wouldn't surprise me if they were the kind of apps someone might download if they were looking to circumvent "the system" (perhaps I should say getting something for free that they should have been playing for). I also don't know if the Kindle Fire has access to the Android Marketplace or just the Amazon Marketplace. Based on the previous post it appears there is a way to "sideload" apps on a Kindle. Sideloading is a term that refers to installing an application that doesn't come from an "approved" source. This doesn't mean the application is "bad" just not where the vendor wants you to get it from. For for example, I have an Android phone and the "official" source of apps is the Android Marketplace. As it turns out, Amazon gives away a free app every day. I can download, for example, a perfectly legitimate (and free) version of Angry Birds. To get it onto my phone, I have to "sideload" it. The software you mention are all for Windows based machines and would not run on Android. Any updates will come from Amazon and likely be pushed to the device.

Right for the kindle Fire that is a tablet not just the plain ereader like the regular kindles so you would definitely need wireless to be able to connect to the internet and surf and do all the stuff you do on the computer. The way Amazon does the account is that say her father would open an amazon account he MUST provide a credit card so that any purchases will be going on that card. Now if he gives the kindle fire to her it is set up on his account that he established for it. If she goes to the amazon store and picks out something she wants to buy and has the log on info for the account on the kindle fire she will be able to buy anything on amazon basically. There have been many complaints of this happening when people have bought one as a gift and they came set up with the amazon account of the person that bought it! I don't know how exactly he would have to handle that situation with her but know that it can and has been a problem for many there are pages of complaints dealing with it. Do the GS that she has seen with their kindle fire live with her? if so and they are using theirs then she should be able to also. The Dad should question someone about the wireless network in the house surely there is an adult that could say if it would be able to work. You can also contact Amazon support and actually speak to someone about setting up the account and how it can be handled in a situation like this. An example my brother in law bought his kindle and set up his account with amazon on his credit card. He bought my sister one and it is also set up on his account so anything she buys goes on his credit card but she can also share any of the books he has purchased that are in his amazon library at amazon. They gave their adult son a kindle also on the same account anything he buys goes on his Dad's credit card but he too can share all the books in their amazon library. So there are good things and bad things here. They can all share the books they buy in the one amazon library but any thing anyone purchases using that account gets charged to my brother in laws credit card that is on file for that account. I think amazon will now limit you to how many can be registered under one account.

Fran1523 -- Nook owners can lend each book only ONCE, for a period of 14 days. And if you "make the offer to lend" a book but the recipient doesn't accept it within 7 days, or rejects it altogether, you cannot lend it to anyone else. You cannot retract an offer to lend once the offer has been made. The lending feature will be available to Kindle owners very soon, so it is no longer an "advantage" for the Nook. You'll also find many books for less - over 135,000 titles are priced under $5.99" I don't think it's that any particular publishing house won't allow any of its books to be sold to Canada (or any country other than the USA), but it's more on a book-by-book basis. It's just a matter of time before all books available in the USA will be available in other countries. But, as it says on the Amazon web site, you can check the availability of books at any time, so if you're thinking of getting a Kindle, look to see if books you'd want are available. Nooks cannot be sold to anyone outside of the USA, so even with limited e-book availability, the Kindle is obviously the better choice. Nook owners keep mentioning the ability to get library books on their Nooks. I've searched for information on the Barnes and Noble web site, but cannot find anything about this. So, the only comment I can make is that if you have to go to the library to "borrow" the book onto your Nook, I don't see any advantage to that at all. It's so nice, with the Kindle, to be able to download books wherever you are at any time of the day or night. And I would imagine that you only get to have the library book for a specific period of time, and I don't like that at all. When you buy a Kindle book (or download a free Kindle book), it's yours forever. Even if you delete it from your Kindle, you can still download it again for free because it's in your Amazon Kindle account. Kindles in the USA have a one-year warranty. Kindles sold to folks in Canada have a one-year warranty. Canadians would have to send their Kindle to the USA for warranty service. I'm in California, and I'd have to send my Kindle elsewhere in the USA for warranty service, so we're even on that one. :-) Murray's Mom -- LOL! We have at least 800 physical books here in the house (hardbound and paperbacks; and, no, we haven't read all of them), but that didn't stop us from getting Kindles! We have the 2nd generation Kindles, so ours hold approximately 1,500 books each. The latest generation Kindles hold at approximately 3,500 books each. It's a heck of a lot easier to carry 100 books with you on a Kindle than it is to haul 100 physical books around with you! In fact, that's one of the driving reasons when I bought a Kindle for my husband. We both love to read, and when we go on vacation, we both always take books with us. But Hubs pretty much only buys hardbound books, and he tends to buy HUGE (thick) books. Try hauling four big, heavy, hardbound books in a carryon when you're flying somewhere. Ouch. Carrying a Kindle is a breeze. You can pretty much always have the Kindle with you, so you can read whenever you have a few minutes free - like waiting for a meeting to start, or while waiting for a bridge to "do its thing." We have two bridges in Sacramento - the Tower Bridge is a vertical lift bridge, and the I Street Bridge is a metal truss swing bridge. If you get stopped at the I Street Bridge as it begins "its thing," you're going to be there for at least 15 minutes. The Tower Bridge takes about 7-8 minutes. Many medical offices don't have magazines in waiting rooms now because of the risk/potential of passing germs, so if you have your Kindle with you, you get to read what you want to read while you're waiting. :-)
