Yesterday I removed Norton from my daughter's computer because she had never activated it. The message kept popping up to activate it even tho it was out of date. It was annoying so I asked if I could remove the Norton. I downloaded AVG and as soon a I did the screen starting blinking every few seconds. I removed it and the blinking stopped. Today she tells me the computer is messed up. I'm not there so I don't know in what way it's messed up but I'm wondering if the AVG could have had a virus in it. She is not blaming me and she says the computer has been acting up for a couple weeks. I don't know in what way because it was fine when I used it except for when I downloaded the AVG. Any suggestions from any one?

So the computer has been running without an Anti Virus??

If that's the case you will need to run scans on it with Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, a Temp file cleaner too.

Then I would download a new Anti Virus program like Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials both are free, I would suggest Microsoft Security Essentials Don't install yet. Next I would run the Norton Removal tool, you can Google that and find it. Then I would run the AVG removal tool. Then double click the set up file that you downloaded for Microsoft Security Essentials and install it and scan with it.

So like when I go on bit defender when I click to download it do I right click and save as on the computer then right click on the saved program and click burn to disk or am I doing it totally wrong because when I opened the cd on my damaged computer and clicked to run program it the error message said I needed to access the Internet which my computer won't do it's like the Internet and the sound were erased out theres just a red x on both also someone said I may need to reinstall vista which is hard to find I found a couple of free trails of windows 7 until I can buy it but I am having the same problem as bit defender maybe I am doing it wrong

Hi pkspigs, All I can find on the issue is "If your iPad is disabled, someone typed in the wrong passcode enough to disable it. LOL, Rosa - I had trouble setting up my iPad, too...I think I somehow bypassed the first setup screen. Took forever to figure out how to tell it I wasn't in Bermuda! :) They sure leave a lot of it up to you to figure out. I finally found the iPad user's guide on the Apple website. My mom keeps saying she wants to buy a new car. Her current car is a 1988 model (I think), and she hates both change and technology. I can't imagine trying to teach her about a new car with all the changes they've made since 1988! My brother got her either Dish TV or Direct TV one year. The guy came and installed all the stuff and left. Well, he may have given her the 2 minute training session they tend to give! LOL Anyway, she turned the TV on, her favorite channel wasn't at the right number, and she called them to cancel it and come get their equipment. They cancelled the service but no one ever came to get the dish and other stuff, so they are still there. She won't even let us unplug any of it because she's afraid her house will burn down or something. >sighsighDonna

I would add one suggestion to this...be sure to active your computer cookies, Patti. I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago after resetting my computer resultant from a modem problem. I was in a hurry and didn't realize that resetting my browser also removed all of my acceptable "cookies". After tearing my hair out for about 15 minutes...trying to get rid of the green words...it suddenly dawned on me what the problem was. I reactivated the cookie for Garden Wed and all returned to normal. HTH Anne

avg remover tool,

First 2 links on page, there are 2 tools 1 for a 32 bit System and one for a 64 bit. Run the correct tool for her system.

Download hijackthis, double click it, do a system scan and save a log file, copy and paste it in a reply. This will tell us if everthings been done correctly, if it does show infections we can direst you for help on that.

Norton is terrible about making problems for other antivirus programs if it is not fully removed and their specific removal tool used, lots of it is left behind and can conflict with other AV programs and other things.

She should NEVER use a pc online with out updated active antivirus programs on it, No doubt it has some multiple types of infection on it by now.

Definitely needs to install update and run the free malwarebytes program and superantispyware too. Only way to try to get it cleaned up a little bit.
