FF 17.0.1 and Silverlite and Netflix won't run

Upgraded to FF 17.0.1 and Netflix streaming gives an error no one at Netflix has ever see before: Hit "Play" and the screen has the red bar with Netflix across the top. Middle of the screen has large blue lettering "Thanks for installing" and under that smaller white lettering "Once installation is complete please restart your browser to watch this movie." But - restart and Netflix gives the same screen.

Did the usual shutdown, power down, clear history.

Uninstalled Firefox and Silverlite and downloaded again and the same problem.

Can play Netflix with IE so I am not without amusement, just frustrated.

I am going to update and run Malwarebytes. Any other suggestions?

I don't know ... Article here you might read... might be part of it.

Make sure you get the most current silverlite from the Microsoft site.

Cannot find any more recent version of Silverlite.

I did find a Mozella users forum where there were complaints back on Nov 24-26 of some Silverlite applications not working with 17. The subject line there was 'can I go back to 16'. They offered changes to About which were workarounds, not fixes. They lost me there. But that was 17-19 days ago. I would have expected a real fix. Perhaps it's the season.

I just remembered that this problem appeared after Windows urged me into accepting a bundle of those more or less regualr updates upon me.

Pam, there is a learning curve with NoScript. In the bottom right corner of your screen there is a blue "S" with a red mark across it when a script is blocked. When you go on Flickr, right click on that blue "S" and choose the option you want to use on Flickr. You can choose to "always allow" or "temporarily allow" either the whole website, or just portions. This program will provide you with a lot of protection on the internet, you just have to get adjusted to how it operates.

Mystery! is my favorite, but isn't on as regularly as it used to be-alas. I also like NCIS, the original Law and Order (even with all the cast changes-really like the new Prosecutor), and Law and Order Criminal Intent. I like The Closer, but can never remember when it's on and there are a lot of 10 pm shows I would probably like, but I go to bed early (school starts early, don'tchaknow). House Hunters and HH International are fun, too. We actually know some people who were on House Hunters. Such a disappointment-they had already bought their house and the other two houses were just filmed for the show. Not sure if they are all like that, but this one was not entirely honest. Too bad.

If I hit "refresh" the page loads momentarily and then the screen goes to the "server was reset..." message....I click the button to return to the page and get the blank screen again....hit "refresh" and.... You know what the definition of a moron is? Someone that keeps repeating the same action hoping to get different results....by that definition.....guess I won't do that any more!!!

It's also very odd that this guy is always wrongfully convicted. Not when it's many of the same people involved. They set him up for the wrongful sexual assault conviction, it seems based on the fact he was a bad apple, there was a huge law suit pending when he was charged with murder (which brought the whole thing to an abrupt end.)The sheriff and da were well aware of the other suspect (who's dna was eventually matched to the crime), but did nothing to prevent the wrongful conviction, in fact others in the sheriff's dept were also aware, so I think he had a very strong case that this was not just a mistake on their part, they actively avoided investigating the person who turned out to be the true offender. I think there was more behind a reason to frame him though for the murder and there were other things they didn't want to come out. If Avery won his lawsuit, I think it would have opened the gates for all of those sexual assault victims who were attacked after Avery was locked up to also have good grounds to sue due to the misconduct. The sexual assault victim in the case became openly critical of the sheriff's dept at this time too, once she realized they put away the wrong person, she was personally told by the sheriff to ignore the information she received about the other suspect in her case before Avery was even found guilty of her sexual assault. There is something very wrong in this sheriff's dept imo. They seem to be fine with coverups and a code of silence when it suits them when they should be holding themselves to high standards. I get the temptation to think he was a lowlife who tortured a cat, so lock him up anyway, but once you give LE a pass on ethics, protocol, conduct, they can target anyone. Not all wrongfully convicted are going to be as squeaky clean as Ryan Ferguson, but the law should be above those types of judgements when convicting people. Lastly he wasn't always wrongfully convicted, he was convicted for what he did to the cat and went to prison for it, I don't think anyone would say that was wrong at all but particularly in a murder trial, a person should expect a fair process even if they are guilty then no one will turn around 10 yrs later and question anything.

There was a time that Firefox (and its Netscape predecessor) offered a better experience than Internet Explorer. I think that time has passed.

I've had too many quirky incidents and problems with Firefox lately, so I've stopped using it. My experience is that IE has improved a bunch while FF has sunk, and Chrome is also solid (though it seems to be not as compatible with some web features as IE is).

Life is too short to drink bad wine. It's also too short to struggle with one free browser, when there are a half dozen also free alternatives that are perfectly satisfactory.

Have to agree with you, snidely. By all means be willing to try different browsers. When I find one I like, I stick with it until I decide I like a different one better. Been with Chrome for several years now, but still have both IE and FF on my machines.

I know every one raves about fire fox but on both my compurters it freezes a lot when browsing and always has and just does not work right. I know it's not my computers because I don't have one single issue of IE freezig or acting up so I don't get it.

I keep firefox installed just in case IE would go out. I just updated to the latest version and netflix plays on it and I get no error but I have no clue about what silverlite is or what I have but if someone tells me I could check and see. Mary

Hey Snidely 10-4 on FF vs IE. I guv up on FF then tried SeaMonkey then Maxthon3 both had problems (for me) all Mozilla products. Back to Chrome and thence IE again sometime soon.

Oddly the Seamonkey pointer had the hourglass blinking rapidly most of the time - drove me nuts. Googling showed that problem unsolved for at least 10 years. Or guessed at complex solutions surpassing all comprehension.

Just FWIW, I am certainly no authority. The little annoyances in Chrome are not nearly as bad as the large annoyances FF kept blessing my computer with. Seems that every browser has its season.

The reduction FF in quality began when they established the six week release cycle.

You could be right, DA, but a 6 week release cycle should provide quicker attention to problems. Though I think any software developer works on and releases significant problem fixes asap, no matter what the schedule.

I saw the same freezes Crafty mentioned, and also erratic shutdowns and window shifts. On three different Win 7 machines, all with different versions of FF in case I found one better than another. I saw problems with all of them, which made me think it maybe was a FF/Win 7 problem, but no matter, I moved on.

I had the same trouble with vista and XP when I tried firefox. I would say it was my computers all those times but IE runs so smoothly and never gives me one bit of trouble on any of those operating systems but it had to be a conflict with something. Mary

I used FF back when it was a kit though admittedly as a backup. Through the years it has grown to my liking. Other than a bad download or losing an occasional add-on I have never had a negative occurrence. Everything is fallible so I can't sit here and say FF is perfect. I do however wonder how many concerns are user generated, particularly those who for whatever reason are entrenched with XP.

Over at support.mozilla.org it says that Quicktime, whatever that is, won't play on 17.0.1.
