dvd question

I don't see any other place to ask on GW.
I have a dvd movie series. The second dvd has a chip in it.
I have not found just that disc anywhere.
'Downton Abbey', SERIES 2, THE SECOND DISC.
CAan I have it copied somewhere? Or not because it is a protected disc?

Have you heard of the freeware DVD Shrink? If your disc is playable you can use that program.

Sorry. I guess I didn't make myself clear. If it worked I wouldn't be looking for another. I don't want to have to buy the whole 3 disc series because 1 disc is broken.
It doesn't do anything.The chip is at the edge where the hole is. It is about 1/2 the size of a dime.

I am not sure that by opening My Computer, you can see the difference between a CD and DVD drive. When I open My Computer, I only see "Compact Disc D" and "Compact Disc E". Now, when I open device manager, and open DVD/CD ROM drives, I see the actual names of my DVD burner and CD ROM. Good Luck Smitty

It depends on what connections you have available on your cable box and DVD/VCR and whether you want to record or just playback from your DVD/VCR. I'd use HDMI cables where I could and 5-part Component cables (red and white connectors for audio and red, blue and green for video) where HDMI is not possible, and 3-part audio/video cables (red and white connectors for audio and yellow for video) elsewhere. Coaxial cable would be my last choice. The Bravia Quick Setup Guide (downloadable from Sony) will give you several possible configurations. If you are stumped, you may want to call in someone with experience to cable it up for you, program your remote controls and demonstrate the best way to use the system.

I like Sherry Nelson and an trying to figure out which of her DVD I want the most. I have several from Patricia Rawlinson and they are mostly tips on painting, stroke work, etc. I also have one by Corilee on Sunflowers - more impressionistic than I like. The other is by Susan Scheewe and it covers just to many things, but she is easy to follow unlike PR's which you view upside down. DH is making me a holder for my computer so I can turn it upside down to view the DVD right side up. Hope it works. This latest venture into flowers and birds sure has taught me that I am a visual learner. And although I really like Shirley Koenig's patterns, her instructions are hard to follow! You really have to know that there is 20 steps in each of her leaves....just kidding, there are only 6 or 7 or 8 or.......but her work is beautiful and I'll get there someday, God willing and the creek don't rise! If it's not playable on your machine, I doubt that it can be copied, totally apart from the issue of copyright protection. In order to copy a disc it is put in a machine that plays it so that the data stream of the original providing the picture and sound can be burned onto the second disc. If you can't play it, a DVD copying machine likely can't play it. Either the laser that scans the surface of the DVD is getting interference from that physical damage, or the mechanism inside of the player can't grasp the center hole because it's an irregular and abnormal shape. I'm afraid there is no easy solution, other than buying a replacement, although you can call a copying company and see if they have a workaround.

Lastly, just curious...I've never seen that kind of damage. How did it occur?

You can go here and view all 4 series of Downton Abbey. I believe you can also download them but never tried

Series 1 through 3 were safe for me but the fourth episode in series 4 was not a safe site according to WOT (Web of trust)

I downloaded the entire first season of DA on my Google Nexus tablet. Now whether it would be possible to burn one of the episodes to DVD, I don't know. Rather doubt that.

The chunk that came off is from the 'hole'. When calling around trying to find someplace to make/buy a copy, I was told that most chips start at the spingle hole because it gets so hot while playing and is prone to damage. The disk wasn't dropped and I am the only one that played it.
Unless I can find someone to buy/make a copy I will have to buy the whole series again...
