Can someone tell me why ?

I am running wireless in my house with 3 machines on a Belkin-G-P. You know that little Icon with the bars in the bottom bar ...well, some days it's a full 5 bars and some days it drops to 1 or 2 bars yet nothing has changed, what would cause this? I'm baffled. At first I figured that the other computors were running but I checked and they weren't.

Help !

RE: Can someone tell me why ?

The signal strength is a combination of the actual 802.11x signal + Phone + Microwaves + other sources that might generate 2.4GHz "Noise"

You might see High Signal Strength that Shows: Excellent (5 bars), but it is actually 30% signal + 70% noise.

Signal strength and noise will vary.

Thank you Zep. I've wondered about this too.

But why the change if everything else is constant. No one on the phone or microwave etc... still gets me thought.

Try a different channel in your router.
1, 6, ,or 11

Might want to get the freeware below.... shows you what channels your neighbors are on that maybe interference so you can pick your most clear channel, hopefully without bumping into the neighbors.

Here is a link that might be useful: inSSIDer
