I am using Firefox 3.0 with AVG and windows xp. I used to have an address bar on my desktop. Grandkids deleted and now the option to get it back is no longer available. Firefox did away with that on previous upgrade. Is there any way to get it back or another address bar? Really miss it.
thanks

RE: address bar

The Address Bar in the browser is where you type in the "URL" or it displays the current "URL" you are viewing like http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums.

Is that what you mean?

RE: address bar

toolbar? maybe??

Right click the bottom task bar and you can make it have an address box, or perhaps a new toolbar then right click it and make it a stand alone address bar.

Try hitting F11. It might be just configured to full screen.

RE: address bar

On the same line as your File and Edit at the right end
Right click - and put a check mark for navigation toolbar.
You can also click customize to pick a search engine.

RE: address bar

I think you must be talking about the option to have an address bar down below the browser on the task bar as stated above.
I have one on mine that way I can just type in a url with out opening a browser first.
Right click on any clear spot on your task bar and put your cursor on toolbars put a check in front of address, make sure there is a check mark on lock toolbars so it is not easily removed. You can use your cursor on the task bar to drag the address bar larger or smaller but to do that you want to unlock the toolbars so you can see the little dots you grab onto to drag it, once you have it set to the size you want then go back and lock the toolbars again.

I used to have an address bar on my desktop where I could type in urls without having to open a page first. Ravencajun you have the right idea but the option is no longer available by right clicking task bar/etc. Firfox for some reason did away with this option when upgrading to 3.0. Why I don't know. anyway thanks to all for your attempts to help. appreciate the time given. will have to learn to live without it I guess.

RE: address bar

it is not related to firefox that task bar is part of your windows. The Start button then the quick launch buttons etc are not part of firefox. If you right click there near the start button for example and then go to toolbars there you will see the option for address, that one has to be checked for the address bar to appear on the task bar.

But if you have installed SP3 on your xp computer then the address bar option is no longer listed, do you have SP3 on your pc? If so that is when you lost your address bar option.

This is how most are going about getting it back
"Enable any other toolbar on the Task Bar... (i.e. The Quick Launch Bar) then, drag it to the top of the screen (off the taskbar onto desktop). Once the top of the screen has a toolbar, right click it and viola... you now have the ability to choose Address Bar. If you want the Address Bar on the bottom task bar, simply drag its handle to the Taskbar and adjust (and lock toolbars)."

another method
1. rightlcick desktop toolbar -> toolbars -> quick launch

2. unlock the toolbar

3. leftclick and hold the quicklanch section and slide it to the rightside of the desktop and allow it to dock there

4. rightclick that rightside docked toolbar -> toolbars -> address

5. Done
or
"Drag My Computer up to the top of your screen, it creates a bar and from there you can right click and add address bar. Now, right click again and remove My Computer from this bar, now you're left with just address."

If you find that when you try to drag the address toolbar back onto the task bar it does not survive a reboot then you will need to leave it docked either at the top of the screen or right above the taskbar on the desktop.

there is a freebie app that you can get which will do what you want I think and is much easier than doing hacks or all that dragging.
Freeware - Address Bar for XP SP3, Open Last Closed Tab, and More : MuvEnum Software

if any of those don't work let me know

RE: address bar

thank you--thank you--thank you ravencajun. I do have service pak 3 and didn't realize that was what caused my problem.
your second suggestion worked for me.
I will copy this down in case this ever happens again and I am sure it will. we get spoiled doing things a certain way.

you have a great thanksgiving and a merry Christmas.
