| My daughters computer was infected with a virus. No antivirus program. Her husband says they don't need it because they have mediacom broadband and it has built in virus protection. this does not sound right to me. Your thoughts please. |

| If mediacom provides a built in Virus protection, then I would think an Anti Virus program is running like Macfee or Norton. No matter what Anti Virus is running you can still get infected. Have the user run a Malwarebytes scan on the computer. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Click here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan. • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note) • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply. Extra Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. |

zep is correct many ISP's do offer a free AV program, of course it has to be set up on the pc and has to be getting the current daily updates for it to work. Malwarebytes free will catch and rid of most of the nasties that get past the regular AV programs. For more info How to download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application for Windows computers She can also install, update and run superantispyware these programs are fine to run along with any AV program since they are manually run they will not confict. they should be updated and run weekly along with the AV program scan. SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition if you do post the log we can tell if it is one that will need more assistance to fully remove it. |

| Good news, however we never did know what the Virus was. Sometimes the symptoms can go away and infected files could still be there. If there is any banking or financial activity done on the pc you may consider posting to a security forum to double check. I have provided a link. |
