Question about Microsoft Moviemaker

I've just used MS Moviemaker to make a simple slide show (titles + digital photos), and I want to play it on my plasma tv. I see that Moviemaker allows you to burn the slideshow to a CD or DVD. The slideshow is small enough to fit on either one. I have a Sony DVD/CD player hooked up directly to the tv. Does it matter whether I burn to a CD or DVD? Will I be able to control the show (like pause the every-5-second picture advance) using my remote in either case? Also, could I simply copy the show onto an SD card and put it in the SD slot that is on the tv?

If your Sony player plays CDs, then I should think that would work. Mine only plays DVDs, so the CD I made won't play in it. I didn't try burning it to a DVD to give that a try. If your TV shows pictures directly from an SD card, I would think that would work also. Maybe someone who has actually done this can answer your questions better.

I have not had any luck with the Video CD's using Movie Maker. It could be my computer and/or my DVD player. They play on my computer, but not on my DVD player/TV.

I have fantastic luck with the DVD's.

I don't know about the SD card - you wouldn't be out anything trying it.

I use a third party software (Roxio) to burn the file to DVD.

You can pause the slideshow, just like any other DVD, with your remote.

Did you know you can change the length of the clip? They don't have to be 5 seconds.

Before you create your slideshow - Select TOOLS->OPTIONS-> then set the picture duration. You can also select the transition duration.

If you already have your slide show created - you can drag each individual clip (on the Timeline view, not storyboard) to whatever length you want. If you want one clip 10 seconds, and another 5 - it is as easy as dragging them to the length you want. You can expand the view of the timeline by clicking the magnifying glass with the + in it. That makes it easier to edit indiviual clips.

When I am finished creating the show - under Step 3 - I select "Save to my computer"
-> I name the show
->I select Other Settings...High Quality NTSC.

It saves that file in My Videos. That is the file I burn to DVD, using Roxio DVD Creator. It will give you a high quality picture to view on your TV. I have a widescreen HDTV and they look great on it!

This step may take a while depending on the length of your show and the speed of your computer. It is a different step than just saving your work (File->Save Project) I do recommend saving your project often while working on it , by selecting File->Save Project. This file is NOT a created playable slideshow - you need to finish out step 3 for that.

WMM does tend to lock up if you are low on RAM or have lots of other apps running. At least that is the case with the XP version. Nothing worse than loosing the whole thing when you are almost finished!

the free ones like AVAST, AVIRA etc also have paid versions they make their money from those and are wonderful in that they also offer a free version to help those who can not afford to pay, the free versions have a bit less on them than the paid versions of course. It benefits everyone when each person can have good updated programs on their pc which is why many of the companies do offer a free version. In pay versions Kaspersky is an excellent choice, it is likely the one I would choose if I used a pay version it or Nod 32. I personally use AVAST free on my windows machines and feel it is an excellent product. The main thing to remember is layered security so along with your fully updated Antivirus you also need good antimalware programs like malwarebytes and superantispyware which are also free which should be updated and run full scans once a week or so. In addition having spywareblaster is another layer that protects you while online and requires no scans just update it weekly and hit the enable all protection button so the shield is green. And of course a firewall, if you have a properly configured router you have a hardware firewall there protecting you but you should have a software one also, vista and windows 7 have a decent one built in. SpywareBlaster SUPERAntiSpyware Free I think you have malwarebytes already? you will of course have to get Trend Micro fully removed from the pc before changing to any other antivirus program. as important these days is to make sure everything is kept updated and patched using Secunia tool makes that easy Secunia Online Software Inspector (OSI)

Bestlawn! I could have asked you over on KT! I had two lines; one I managed to delete, but I've fumbled around so much I cannot remember what I did! Yes, I think the enter/return is what seems to trigger it. When I try to select the line, a thin vertical highlight strip appears on the left above, through, and below the line, but it will not delete. I've spent the last 20-30 minutes trying to figure it out, searching "help." But it's no big problem, I can scroll it down to the blank page and not print that page. And now that I know how to draw lines w/o triggering the other line, I'll be ok. I suppose 2007 is ok when one gets used to it, but it sure takes up a lot of time getting to that point. It has a default of 1.5 spacing, which is not that good for me. Thanks...you're the "best!"

I would install the works before removing the office starter. That way if the works doesn't install you still have the office starter - I would leave them both on if it were me. There's no conflict. There's nothing wrong with tje starter, you're just not used to it. When MS introduced the ribbon they now use is office it confused a lot of people. The word and excel starters are not full-functioned but the work very well and are all most people really need.

I can do the same thing too but I miss the convenience of the list of recent pages because (for example) if I wanted to go back 5 pages, I could click once on the 5th page back instead of clicking the back arrow 5 times. I still have the IE browser, but I also like the edge browser and find it works a little faster with Windows 10 on my computer. I do miss the menu bar, though. Thanks for responding. I should note that I'm the op, it's just my username got changed somehow when I logged on to post my question.
