if you love to read Kindle for pc is free

Some of you may know about the Kindle ebooks readers that Amazon sells, they are very neat but expensive. Luckily Amazon just released a free version of Kindle for the PC, a Mac version is in the works also. I got mine already and love it. It is a very easy install and extremely easy to use, if you already have an Amazon account you use the same account info and password, if not you can set one up. You can put the Kindle for PC on as many computers as you like and it has the ability to sync and put all of your library of books on every one of your computers. There is a very large selection of books that are totally free which is nice to try it out with. You can change font sizes and set it up so it is right for your eyes.
Here is where you get it
Kindle
just click on the download button, it will open a new page with the directions for install, the download box will open, save it to your pc where you know where it is, double click on it, install is about 2 minutes total. It will ask for your Amazon log in info, you can then go to the shop kindle store in the top of the kindle to shop for books or go to these links to grab a few free ones.
kindle freebie those that say the price is zero are free, just click on them as you would to purchase, it will then ask where to send it, select the Kindle for pc option and it will immediately send to your pc kindle library.
free books

this is excellent for those with netbooks and laptops.
To sync it with other computers or with a kindle reader just hit the menu button at the top of the app and select to sync and look for new items.
Enjoy!

Thanks Raven, it's a good way to see if you like to Kindle. I downloaded it to my desktop PC and probably should have put it on my laptop. I did the sync thing, may have to ask you questions about getting it with my lap top. Don't think I would care for reading at my desk.

I have been reading at both but my netbook is very convenient. I installed it on both then each time I am on one I just hit menu then the sync option to get it to find where I was in the book so it brings me back to the correct page on each. It saves bookmarks to each also.
I have found a lot of good free books so far.

Raven thanks for clearing that up. I have seen the option sync on my computer regarding my Ipod ( I think) and guessed at what it did, but have never used it.

Thank you so much Raven!!! I put it on my laptop which has Vista. I'm not that familiar with Vista and I couldn't find where the Kindle for PC was. I kept looking to see where the book was and finally found everything.....on my desktop.

Thanks!!!!

Yes, thanks for the link. I loaded it back on Nov 10 when you first posted about it. It's great. Even found an Agatha Christie book. I love her books. And I shared it with my daughter who is a voracious reader. We here at the forum appreciate it when you come up with these suggestions!

I am happy to share! My husband and I read a ton of books so for us to be able to save space and save trees by reading our books on PC or Kindle is just a wonderful thing. I have every bookshelf in my new house filled and still have boxes of books! this is an excellent way to have a library with out taking up all that space.
I have really been enjoying my Kindle on my Acer netbook. In fact my husband now wants his own laptop or netbook so he can sit in his recliner and read too, guess Santa needs to put that on the list.
It is still in beta but I have not had a single problem with it nor has anyone else that I have talked to, works like a charm on my desktop and my netbook. I learned to go ahead and grab any of the freebie books to my library that sound of interest because they do not always stay free so get em while you can, then delete them if you find you don't want them.

Raven, can you save the free books from any source to Kindle? I downloaded a book from the site that Susieq07 gave above, and I don't find a way to get it to Kindle. Maybe I missed that when I was downloading?

no you can download from the kindle store the free books that they offer, you just do a search at the kindle store for kindle freebie or use the links I provided and any of the free ones listed you can select, hit the buy button, there is no charge but then it will ask where you want it to go and you select your kindle (be sure you are signed into your account)it will then open your kindle and poof the book appears in there.

The ones from that other site are just text files or pdf files which you have to read using a pdf reader or a text file reader. Some will open in the browser to read.

Raven how do you delete them? And also if I have Kindle on my laptop and not one my desk pc can I use my desk pc to download a book to Laptop that has kindle?

RE: if you love to read Kindle for pc is free

yes you can if you are using your kindle account at Amazon and tell it to send it to your kindle, your kindle will have to be connected to the internet of course to receive that download, when you access your kindle store account at Amazon you can do that from any where, just tell it to send it to your kindle on pc and it will.
To delete/remove a book from the device, right click on the book in your kindle and select remove from device.

also an easy way to see everything and do a lot of the stuff you want to do just go up to the top right corner hit menu on the kindle and select manage my kindle that will take you to your kindle account management page where you have the list of everything you have purchased, which pc it was sent to and from there if you want to send it to another of your kindles, much info there to play with. You can also manage synchronization with all devices there too.

I have kindle on my laptop, desktop and ipod touch. Is it possible to sync all three. I have done it to both computers but can't find a way to do a sync with the ipod. Would love to be able to read my library on all three.
Thanks for bringing kindle PC to my attention.

yes you sure can sync all three as long as they all are on the same kindle store account name. Have you tried going to your iphone kindle app and clicking on the sync function there on it and seeing if you can get it to sync and add the new books? I do not have the iphone but that is how it worked for my laptop, I had to go to the kindle app on it and click there to sync and find new items, then go to the archive area on that kindle app and double click on each to get it downloaded to there.
I know it says it can be synced with the iphone and my nephew has both and did it so if you play around with it you should be able to do it. Try going to the Menu on your kindle pc, then the manage my account to see if you can click from there on each individual listed book in the drop down beside them and select your iphone app there. I am able to do my sync that way also.

"For Whispernet synchronization to work, however, you must keep it turned on in your account settings on the Amazon site (it's on by default)--and, of course, you must turn on the wireless support on your Kindle devices. The option of turning sync on or off is useful, because if more than one person is reading a book registered to a single account at the same time, they probably don't want to use one another's bookmarks. But if you're the only account user, turning sync on lets you pick up reading on any Kindle device or application. "

I recently found out about another free reader program which can also be used on Mac as well as Windows and on iphone and ipod. I have not yet downloaded and tried it but have heard good things, there are many places you can get free books for it and it is possible to use kindle books from what I have been told. there is a great FAQ area on the site.
Stanza Desktop: A Revolution in Reading

It is also now owned by Amazon so there should be improved integration and sharing with Kindle.
