Converting CassetteTape to DVD

| Would appreciate if anyone knows where I can have this transfer done at a reasonable price. My old Cassette tape is of home movies that I treasure and need to preserve. I do not wish to learn how to do this myself.
Thanks |

| I know that you said that you weren't interested in learning how to do this but .. It's not all that difficult to do, unless you have a very old pc. Just plug in a set of audio cables into your 'audio out' jack(s) on your cassette player to your 'audio in' jack(s) on your pc. Your pc will record the audio to a file and then you just 'burn' the file to disk. I can walk you through it, step by step if you want to try it. |

sunshines- I presume you're talking about videotape, not just audiotape? There are many companies that do this for a reasonable price and you can find them in your Yellow Pages under listings like "Video Transfer," etc. If I had a whole bunch of tapes it would be most economical to invest in a hardware and software package to do this, but the last time I looked the package cost about $100 and they're not always easy to use. If you've just got a few, it's a lot less hassle to let the professionals do that. I had an old VCR tape converted to a DVD last month. I did it at the Costco Photo Finishing counter: they charge $20 for the transfer, and that includes two DVD copies. Local camera stores can do this, and you can also send your tapes off to online companies. Just Google the phrase "transfer videotape to DVD" and you'll get quite a few hits. |

| Unless your PC has a TV card in it, you'll need to get some sort of adapter to connect the VCR to the PC. There are some available for pretty reasonable prices and there are some that can do it without the use of the PC, although I'd get something for the PC because it has other uses, as well (for example, you can use the PC as a DVR if it's near a cable outlet). You can get a USB 2.0 device that will work without the need to open the PC, but sometimes the cards that plug in have advantages (better transfer, encoding on the card, etc). They usually come with pretty easy to use software, and the exact directions for doing it will vary depending on the device and software you get. |

Depends On Your PC

| On my pc which is a high end Media Center, using the Vista 64bit OS, I can plug in my VHS to the pc and record it to a file and burn it from that file. I can't tell you if you can do the same without knowing what system you are using. What is your pc? |
