What happened/ How to fix?

A) Suddenly, when I do a web search (Google, Bing, ....) when I select a destination from my search, I'm directed to a completely irrelevant site, one that's selling something unrelated to my search.

B) The window I'm working in might close unexpectedly, w/o seeming cause.

C) If I try to save the text I'm working on by copying, in case the window closes, I can't past what I copied in the new window.

D) If I select a website from my favorites, I have no problem getting there, but the window might still close at any time.

These are symptoms I noted so far. Any suggestions? Thanks so much for your consideration.

You have a browser hijacker most likely lets check,

Thanks, Joe. I ran Spybot ( http://spybot.top-pc-download.com/da/ ) and it says I'm clean, but if you think it will help, I'll download the program you mentioned and run it tomo, then report back to you.

In XP to restore to an earlier date: All Programs>System Tools>System Restore. Choose a date that is in bold print when the sound was working and restore to that date. See if your sound comes back. If that doesn't work, post back and then someone will tell you how to find Device Manager to try what Mikie suggested.

We have a lot of clay here too, it's really a pain when you go through a drought followed by heavy rains because it can move a lot under those conditions. If the decking is demo'd they can indeed drill dowels into the pool walls, it won't affect the plaster because they're drilling into the back side of the walls. Unless they use a bit that is too long and it goes all the way through! Here are some pics so you can see what I'm describing, in this first picture they've set the steel and about every 36" they left a rod extending vertically. They will later be bent down and will be cast into the decking. In this picture you can see that they've bent the bars down and then placed additional reinforcing for the deck over them. This was after it had rained and the bars were partially into the sand, but before the decking was poured the bars were placed on chairs to raise them above the sand. Ideally the reinforcing should be centered in the decking slab. You can also see in this picture where they installed dowels into the existing sidewalk in the bottom of the picture. They drilled into the sidewalk and installed dowels about every 36". This is similar to what they should have done on your flatwork. This is a finished pic, mainly to show the mastic joints. There should be a mastic joint between the flatwork and pool coping, and also between the new decking and existing decking or sidewalks (if there are any). In our case you can see (barely) a mastic joint on the backside of the coping and also where the decking meets the existing sidewalk (existing sidewalk is to the right, it's a slightly darker color).

No photos included with that last post (if they were intended). We don't even know if it is the same kind of hydrangea being discussed! FWIW, I live in the slug capitol of the universe - the banana slug is our state mollusk!! And we have snails as well. Both of these are so prolific in PNW gardens that I cannot successfully grow hostas in the ground even with copious amounts of slug bait (the eco-safe iron phosphate type). They get chewed to shreds. But I have rarely ever seen much slug damage on any hydrangeas (and I grow dozens) and certainly none where they ate the center buds. And actual slug damage would look quite different from brown, rotting centers. I would strongly suspect something else going on. btw, you never want to sprinkle salt in the garden. It can ruin the soil, alter pH and will only work when directly applied to a slug. It is not a bait nor a deterrent.

Everything seemly is going well and your cool-season lawn is green and beautiful. Then you have a hot, humid night and the next day the grass shows some yellow patches. The day after, the yellow turns to brown. What’s going on? While seemingly overnight yellowing can be a symptom of a number of different lawn diseases, this particular culprit is most likely a lawn fungus called brown patch. Brown patch thrives when it is hot and humid, and can affect your lawn in late spring, summer, or early fall, depending on what type of cool-season grass you have, where you live, and recent weather conditions. Prolonged wetness from dew, rain, nighttime or evening watering, or poor drainage—or any other activity that keeps grass blades wet during weather in which temperatures are above 80 degrees F during the day and 65 degrees F at night—create ideal conditions for developing this serious fungal disease. In addition, grass that has been over-stimulated with nitrogen fertilizer just before or during hot, humid weather tends to be more susceptible to brown patch. You can try using a granular fungicide for brown patch. Normally this will cure more then 1 fungus. Try not to water at night or in the evenings. What you described has all of the characteristics of a virus infection or browser hijacker as previously suggested. Running just one program, like Spybot, is insufficient to know if you are clean. In addition, what antivirus software are you running and is it up-to-date?

I downloaded the suggested program & ran it. I ended up with several new nuisance programs on my computer that I didn't want, and a black screen on one user page.

I did a systems restore that took care of it. All's well. Thanks for the effort and for considering my problem. I appreciate it.

If you downloaded from bleeping computer as suggested you clicked in the wrong place to get the other things.

You need to click the blue button almost centre screen then do as your version of Windows suggests to download the file.

Here's a direct link, save the file from the pop up box that pops up on this forum to the desktop, once on the desk top do scan, click report an post the log.

Lot of people have issue with that Bleeping computer link, I don't think that wait for the box to pop up.. where you save the file or something like that.

Sometimes I forget that not all folks block ads(or use WOT). I think I'm going to start turning off Adblock Plus to check for "traps?" before sending anybody anywhere to download anything. It seems Google is becoming downright deceptive, even dangerous.

Even if you do click the correct button on the first page, you still get sent to another page where, if you're impatient, you get a second chance to... be deceived?
