System Restore ?s

Posted by granniek (My Page) on

I tried using SR, but it would only let me go back to 5 days ago. My 'puter has been getting progressively slower and showing error messages for about six weeks now and I wanted to restore to before that point in time.

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite with Vista Premium OS. TIA.

Sheila :)

What are the error messages? Did you delete prior restore points? If no, maybe you have a nasty that did. Do you have any antivirus or antimalware installed? If yes, run them one at a time in safe mode and see if the situation improves.

You can't go back to earlier restore points if they are not listed. Computers often slow down because many add-ons like RealPlayer, etc., often get set up to always load at startup and you have a lot of stuff hogging system memory when it's not necessary. There is a way to check on and change some of this. But first you need to run an anti-virus scan, and something else useful like the free program Malwarebytes, which will find stuff that even good anti-virus software misses. Do these things, then report back. And do tell us what those error messages relate to.

Here is a link that might be useful: Malwarebytes

the only reason you would have such limited restore points is if you deleted them or if you have changed the setting for how much space you are allowing the pc to use to create restore points, or you are only looking at the restore points for this month, you can use the arrows on the calendar they show to go to the previous month so you can see restore points from that time period also.
Go to control panel> system> system restore tab and see how much space you are allowing it to have there.

Of course updating and running a full scan with malwarebytes is always good.
