Some time back I was thinking of getting a fax machine but someone said you could use your computer for doing the same thing. How do you do it with the computer? Thanks BT

Some windows sort of have fax built in... type Fax into your search box in win7 you might open a window like this... plug in a telephone wire into my laptop and use the internal dial up fax modem to send a fax, for the price of a phone call.

or you search yahoo for it.. there are online companies that do it. You can buy a fax machine pretty cheap too. But Fax is kind of a old fashioned deal .. when email is so simple.

What version of windows do you have.

If your computer has a fax modem you could fax a document directly from the computer, but most computers today don't come with them. I bought a printer which will print/copy/scan/fax, and it works pretty well. Mine is a HP Officejet 4500 and it comes with Windows software which simplifies the process somewhat. Probably has Mac software too but I don't know that for certain. Installing the PRINTER also installs a FAX PRINTER. When you want to fax a document, you scan it into the computer, then print it using the FAX PRINTER instead of the PRINTER and the fax software will start. Then you enter the fax phone number and away you go.

All of this depends on you having a plain old landline phone which is NOT VOIP...if you are using Vonage or phone service from your cable company I think you are out of luck. Fax usually does not work well over VOIP. HTH.

I would try to shake off and maybe even brush off as much toner as possible. Before washing in a machine, I would try rinsing the area with water to try to remove as much as possible. After all that, I would try soaking the area first. Khakis don't do well with pretreaters. They usually give a bleach out effect. Maybe try soaking the area with either baking soda or borax. I have spilled toner on my clothes before and they did wash out.

You may want to consider the option I chose when I wanted to get rid of paying for an extra phone line, the phone company offers a distinctive ring option you can keep your same fax phone number but it is assigned the distinctive ring mine is a double ring, you set your fax machine to answer only on distinctive ring which most fax machines can do. You pay a minimal fee for a distinctive ring charge, have a separate phone number for the fax but no longer have to pay for that extra phone line. You really only have the one line that line just has 2 numbers assigned to it. Many people use this type of feature for the Kids line so the family knows if it is an adult call or a kids call. I went that route many years ago and it works perfectly. All other phone features work with it like caller id and call waiting etc. Distinctive Ring

there are a lot of internet faxing options many are free some charge a fee if the size is large. FaxZero.com do a google search for "internet faxing" what type of internet connections are you using, what type of modem or router? which version of windows? Are you certain there is not a built in modem in your pc already? most have them and they are generally fax modems. You could run belarc advisor on your pc and get a list of what is on it. go to this link, in the tutorial box scroll to item 100 it gives you the directions to how to use fax in windows wizard. OK, I did it. Thanks, guys! After getting rid of so much stuff I *thought* was going to be useful, I'm very skittish anymore about bringing new stuff into the house. But, I think this will be a good thing. Even if I don't end up using it as a copier much. It seems like whenever something needs to be faxed, there's some kind of emergency involved. And who needs to add a 45-minute round trip to Office Max when there's an emergency going on to begin with. Now if I can just stay organized enough to get the rebate in on time. :)
