Malwarebytes - gonna get it, but...

Posted by jannaz (My Page) on

I should have done it a long time ago, I know.

Will it conflict with the AVG and Spywareblaster already on my PC (win XP pro, Acer)?

thanx
Jann

No it will not. Malwarebytes is on-demand scanner, does nor run on the system.

definitely get it, it is free, and as Zep said it will not conflict with your other programs. You can also get the free superantispyware and run that one also, I have all of them. Just have to remember to open them and hit update before running the scans. here is a link for info on malwarebytes
How to download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware application for Windows computers

OHm'gosh - got it downloaded and ran quick scan which shows three "baddies" under Vendor it says "Disabled.security" then under category "Registry data" then under items "HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Micro..."

It's waiting for me to tell it what to do with them and I don't have a clue. Help!!!!

At the end of a Malwarebytes scan you've got a list of baddies. No reason to be terrified. Let the program remove/quarantine the things it found so your system gets cleaned up. There are no complex choices to be made: just click the button that finishes the work.

Thanks, Kudzu. Let me rephrase, now that my panic attack has subsided. Is there any way to have the baddies quarentined rather than removed with the free version? Or can I assume anything Mwbts wants to remove can be removed without compromising the PC?

Thanks,

Let Malwarebytes remove everything it finds, reboot after running it.

OK, will do, and thanks for the tips. Now I'm gonna go put it on hubby's PC

that is why I gave you the link to the tutorial with all the directions on how to use it.
Definitely let it clean what it finds.

Thanks, Raven - I did visit the link but wanted to clarify how to proceed. It seems like I read somewhere you should always quarantine first, then remove if computer still functions properly. I'll go back and re-read.

The boss put MWB on our library computers and is very pleased with it.

Cheers,
J

RE: Malwarebytes - gonna get it, but...

Um, can I suggest that a "complete scan" may be better than a "quick scan"?

 o
RE: Malwarebytes - gonna get it, but...

A good suggestion Shax. I always run a full scan on my computers. Start it and walk away for an hour or so.

 o
RE: Malwarebytes - gonna get it, but...

I too always run the full scan after updating of course.
