Colour laser printer

Need some advice on buying a colour laser printer. Our old ink jet stopped working and we need to replace it ASAP - our 7yo prints a lot!

I'm looking at a wireless that will work with PC and Mac and hopefully the toner replacements don't cost more than the printer!

Thoughts on these(open to other suggestions)

Theses are are available under $350 - would like to keep in that range.

It may help if you check with friends and family to see if they have the 2015 edition of Consumer Reports Buying Guide. It rates seven color laser printers; 3-Brother, 3-Samsung and a Dell. Only one is out of your price range.

DA, does that article discuss whether the Dell model is truly a Dell product? Dell extricated itself from some parts (but perhaps not all parts) of the printer market some time ago, paying other companies to make Dell-branded models. Perhaps what's listed isn't made by Dell.

Whether or not, I'd take a look first at the cost differences for replacement ink/cartridges (or whatever they're called on a color laser printer) as between competing brands. If you think you'll be buying them frequently, let those prices factor into your buying decision.

Credit to everyone who is trying to recycle their ink cartridges, but I still have concerns about these printers and their consumables. Ink jet printers are just plain hard on the budget and the environment, and the cartridges can't be refilled indefinitely, many only once and very few more than two or three times. Many applications don't really need an ink jet, I see lots of these printers being used in places where a laser or dot matrix would be much better suited to the job. Often people buy them because the initial printer cost is very low, frequently because it's heavily subsided by the expensive cartridges, sometimes the printer is sold for less than a full set of cartridges. However, when you consider the price of ink and special paper, it's multiple times cheaper to take your digital photographs or images to a shop and have them use their state of the art printer worth thousands to print them for you. No need to clutter up your house with another printer, no need to change cartridges or anything. Best of all it's not more work, you can either go out to the store to buy cartridges or you can go to the store to have your pictures printed. The only major difference is price and quality, both of which are better. Some places do it mail order or over the internet now, so you could have your prints sent to you. Of course some people do need a colour printer at home or in their office, there are genuine needs, but then it's fair to point out that the price of colour laser printers has dropped a lot now, and they're much better suited to high volume applications, but also don't dry up if not used for a while. They also work out much cheaper in the long term. Anyone who can justify their need for a high quality colour printer, for example a high volume of prints being made, can probably justify the initial expense of a colour laser as it will save them so much money in the long term.

I always used HP inkjets but this time I went with a Brother laser that is both black and color, it is fantastic and it is a multi function does it all, scan, copy fax print and so much more, I got it when it went on sale at office max for a little over $300. But with what I will save on not buying the expensive ink it will be worth it. I would really suggest looking at this same one it would be perfect for a small office. My husbands company uses these Brother lasers and they rarely ever have any problems other than changing the toner occasionally. Brother MFC-9120CN Digital Color All-in-One Printer OH MY GOSH it is on sale for $299 man I would jump on that deal asap! that is less than I paid for it, but their sales do not last long. They do fast delivery too. I am not kidding this thing will do stuff I will never need to do but for an office it would be great. I checked on several sites for reviews and this model had a lot of positive reviews.

kathy-- doesn't that make you so darned mad??? I had been ready to place an order with Eddie Bauer with a coupon code, but nowhere on the screen did it mention that the discount would be applied BEFORE the card was charged. So I nixed the order and sent E.B. an email stating my problem. Never heard back from them. I've placed an incorrect order (Williams-Sonoma) before, and even though I called customer service immediately after, I was told they couldn't promise me a correction. Sure enough, no correction. Another email to company, and nothing.

That's all I have here, Brother. I have Two Color Laser AIO Machines (MFC-9440cn & DCP-9040cn) and One Inkjet AIO Machine (MFC-845cw), also have a Brother Label Printer (QL-570). I've had them for many years and I have been very happy with my Brother Printers. I did have a Brother B&W Laser Printer before the Color Lasers (HL-1440). It worked great, sold it because of the Color Laser Printers! I know you're asking "Why Two Color Laser AIO Printers"? Well I purchased the MFC-9440cn for home. My wife kept threatening to take it to work with her (she worked in a Small Office). Well, one day I showed up at her work with a New Brother DCP-9040cn Color Laser AIO. I decided to make her happy and get her her own Color Laser Printer for work. The business has since closed and we brought the printer home.

Only a second as I'm back at work. The phone rang. I don't have the model number. It was listed as a Dell. Made by Dell? It is the recommend buy.

I had my CR2015 buying guide beside my computer. i see you are looking for the regular printers rather than all in one. CR likes three Brothers. I imagine the hl3170 replaces the 3140 at $280. i see that the big difference between ink jet and lazers are the doubled ink/month costs based on some average of pages printed. Perhaps your child is above that. There are three higher rated printers but the first two are 3x and 2x more expensive for ink. The samsung color xpress c1810w is in 3rd place with similar ink and machine cost to the Brother. BTW, the only laser check rated model was the ink hog Dell C1660w.
I see that you could get an inkjet with half the Brother ink costs (HP officeJet Pro 251dw. I also see that my own Canon inkjet probably uses ink costing like the Brother, so I should probably get another machine if I wanted to save ink costs.

No luck on my end getting CR2015 for review- and after all my interest in a stand alone printer - our son decided all-in-one was more to his liking and would save him time. Ended up with a xerox 6015ni.
