Moving a folder

HP Compaq- XP
Can someone please tell me what I did wrong? I was looking for a picture that turned out to be in a sub-folder of another one. I dragged the sub-folder to my desktop, then went to My Documents and dragged it into that- I thought.
The sub-folder has just disappeared. I have twice done a search of the computer with different wording and it is just not anywhere. Thank goodness the folder is backed up on my external hard drive so the pictures still exist.
But what could have happened that would cause the folder to just disappear? I don't want that to happen again.

RE: Moving a folder

I doubt the folder 'disappeared' in the sense that it is gone. If you are unsure of the exact name of the folder then use wild cards like this... Assuming the name was 'folder' and you are sure of only the first 3 then go fol* and it will show on the search. If you only know the middle then use *old* but expect numerous finds perhaps.

If you know the name of the photo in the folder or only part do the same, something like pho*.* or *oto.* Note the second star is for the suffix if you are unsure whether it is a jpg, bmp or any other format.

Thanks, owbist. That worked. The folder is still in My Documents but it went into another folder as a subfolder.
I'm keeping your information for future reference. Thanks again.

Glad you solved your puzzle easily. Thanks for posting back, lurkers always like to know an outcome for future reference for themselves.
