Qveeplayer question - try again

Posted by yabber (My Page) on

My previous message is not there, so I'll try again:

We got this message to install qveeplayer (for an AVI file). We can watch other AVI Files so why does this one require qveeplayer? Is this something you can download for free or should we buy it online?

Possibilities:

This file requires a video codec that you do not have.
The ones trying to get you to view this file are shills for qveeplayer and get a cut of the $ each time someone pays the $7.95 to get it.

You could try installing VLC and see if you can play the file. Otherwise, my choice would be to forget about it. I'm very leery of paying for anything required to see a video when so many other options for seeing video are available for free. Just my $.02

Here is a link that might be useful: VLC Media Player

I agree.

I agree also I would step away from the file, installing the free VLC is a good choice it plays most types of files, if you can not play the file with out buying something you better know what the heck it is and why someone sent it to you. You may be able to use a conversion site that will convert the file type to something more easily readable.

be really careful if you decide to try to go to google and find some thing qveeplayer related because I am seeing several of the sites there that are RED listed by WOT.
I highly recommend everyone have WOT so they know which sites to avoid.

yabber-
In general, I advise people to stay away from "offers" like this. While this particular player is a legitimate product, it is sometimes hard to tell if the offer is legitimate. It could be a scam offer from someone who is not really affiliated with the legitimate product. You could be paying to download a bogus product, which infects your computer with malware.

I agree with the advice above that you should decide you need a certain kind of software and then go looking for a product that meets your needs, rather than responding to random offers.

OK we are steering clear of this one! THank you guys, I thought my gut feeling was good but when you don't know enough about it you start to doubt that you might overreact? So anyway, that file will get a nice spot in..the recycling bin :-)

As an aside, why not e-mail iVillage and ask them to remove your thread with the dead link? If you don't it will be at the top forever, or maybe longer.
