If you can get Windows98 to start in the "safe" mode (pressing the F8 key as mentioned above), open the "recycle bin and look to see if the deleted files are there. They should be if these have not been removed from the recycle bin. If the files are there, merely highlight the file and click on "restore". This will put the file back from whence it came unless you have deleted certain part of the operating system. However, if you deleted files using the old DOS commands, I'm not sure what happens. They may be gone. In any event, you could re-install Windows. I've had to to do that a few times back when I had Win98 SE. Before reinstalling, copy down all of your browser settings. You may loose these on an re-install. It doesn't happen every time, but it is a good practice just in case. I'm not sure what happens to the Windows updates upon a re-install. If you are lucky, Windows will recognize the update copies on the drive and install these. If this does not happen, the next time you go in-line, the Windows updater may begin, or ask to begin downloading a bunch of updates, and this can be a lengthy process over a 'dail-up' connection. Of course, you are aware that MicroSoft stopped supporting Window98 and there will be no new updates save the ones already available. If your equipment is suitable for Windows XP, I recommend moving up to that operating system. It's much better that Win98. One caution, however: Make sure that you have plenty of disk space be you begin the upgrade. A big mess is created if XP fails to finish loading due to not enough disk space. Read the requirements carefully. Upgrading to XP requires a huge temporary file during the upgrade, much larger than one might imagine. Also, a large amount of space is neded to store the old system if the option to retain 'retore old system' is chosen. If your disks are formatted for FAT 16 bit, convert up to at least 32 bit FAT. BUT WAIT! If you need to run old DOS programs, find out how to set this up under XP before you convert. That may be more trouble than its worth. It would be best if you could move away from these if possible. I've had no problem with older software written for Win95/98 when run under XP. I do have an expensive old DOS based finite element analysis program that I can no longer run with XP. If I find that I really need to run this program (for consulting purposes), I'll refresh an old computer and install Win98 SE and this program on it.

I've never understood how "Editing" would work. For instance, if I say something and a few minutes later decide I should have said something else, then go back and change what I said, many others have already responded to the original, so doesn't that upset the apple cart? We need to be our own Editor. I do type my message in Word if it is a long message and then C&P it into the thread. Also, if you use your Spellcheck feature, you will see there is an error and can fix it, which BTW, eliminates the need for the SP? thingy I didn't see Pattie's error either. Sorry I missed it if it was humorous. If you are prone to typos, take a minute to correct it. What bothers me the most is the lack of punctuation, which makes a long message hard to decipher. NHB--the others who are more computer savvy may be able to give more pointers, but I even forget that I've changed to Firefox because to me it looks so similar to IE (other than the ads not appearing now). Yes, you can still get hotmail--I use that also. I've never used just hotmail to store my mail though, so I use Windows Live to actually receive it on my computer though that's not necessary--just my preference since I have Windows 7 operating system. After installing Firefox, you just would likely want to select your home page (as you do with IE) and personalize the toolbar so it has the menu items you use most (as you do with IE, also). I love the faster page loading time and now--this adblocking is absolutely great! If you download Mozilla Firefox and don't like it, you can always uninstall. I downloaded it, tried it first, then after seeing it worked fine for accessing the internet, I quit using IE altogether. Thanks again to gr8day for asking your question (even though that particular ad wasn't hassling me) and to the others for the tip.

Going to interject here with my experience . Name that plant forum is not the only one experiencing problems. I have visited a number of forums and run into the same problem. When you post there is the box for the initial statement or question. You fill that and then you fill in the box below what becomes the title of the post. Then you hit next . That brings you to a page that allows you to pick your topic , once you have done that you hit Post. In many many cases either or both pages get " stuck " at this point. At the right lower part of the post it shows three little dots that appear to scroll from the first to the last and this just keeps going and going and going . Some have experienced an inability to post images in the post as well . This is not a browzer issue , nor a cache issue. This only started when Houzz decided to change the way posts were going to be available to more than one forum if you wanted. Had they left the site alone so many people would not be having these issues and it seems they have not been able to fix the glitch they created and nothing is more frustrating than to get a generic reply that basically says ...."too bad !" Let's face it , Houzz is not a garden site . It is here only to sell product their product . The fact that they continued with the Gardenweb part of the site I guess is a bonus but a frustrating one that they cant seem to fix it seems.
