Open Office as Default?

Posted by shaxhome (My Page) on

I regularly write reports at work, using M.Word, and save them on that computer.
Now, I want to keep them on my home computer, and have emailed them to myself. But my home computer has OO.

But when I download them at home, they want me to register for Microsoft Works before I can save them.

Is there some way (must be!) I can make OO my default opener/saver?

I HAVE tried various means, but am a little out of my depth here...Please help!

Regards,
Shax

RE: Open Office as Default?

Right-click the filename in Windows Explorer, select Properties, where it says "opens with" click the Change button, select the program you want to open the file with, click OK then Apply and that should do it. This is for XP, Vista is probably similar but you didn't mention which one you are using. Don't bother with MSWorks unless you want to register it. If you are going to be using OO, you probably won't need MSWorks at all.

Or perhaps, START>Control Panel>Default Programs>Set Your Default Programs.

As you move through the utility you will be offered an opportunity to set associations. Take the steps necessary to associate .doc files with OO. The instuctions are in plain speak.

Thank you both! I knew it'd be simple for someone who knows what they're doing...

Now, DA, about my CD Burner...:>D
