smartphones?

We just updated our phones from the old razor to Nokia 900. They are fairly easy to use. Calling the "help" line is pretty useless, they know less than I do about this phone and they reccommend we take it back to the store. Store is too busy, long wait time. Web site is not real helpful either. And, yes, I do have the owner's manual downloaded in pdf. So.. the question is, does anyone know of a site I can ask questions on. Anything like this one would be great. Thanks.

There's a number of options out there, none of them are perfect as far as the few I've sampled. You'll find most options will control the transformer on the 110v side meaning that multiple zones = multiple transformer. As mentioned above FX Luminaire is one option, back when I saw of demo of that particular product it was required that you use FX Luminaire fixtures throughout the project and the transformer was very pricey so I never tried it out. I think they've since improved it but I am nor familiar. There's a company out there called "Universal Lighting Systems" and they make something called a "U-sync ZoneControl", I've used this and it works well. It connects to the low voltage side and you can set up to 3 separate zones setting each as either automatic or manual. So you can set a light on your BBQ for example as manual controlled meaning everything else goes on and the BBQ "zone" must be turned on manually via remote control or remote wall switch. Runs $200 - $300 or so. Vista Lighting has another option called a vPro transformer which come with either 1 or 2 "zones". This is controlled via bluetooth on your smartphone and zones can be set separately as dusk - dawn, dusk - 1am, 8pm - 2am etc.. You can also dim each zone or have a zone go from 100% - 35% light output at 2am for example. The bluetooth has a limited range so you need to be relatively close to the transformer to make changes to the timer or to control it manually. It works with most LED fixture out there but you need to make sure fixtures are dimmable it you want to use that feature. Not sure the exact cost but plan on spending $200 - 300 more than you would for a professional grade transformer without the vPro control option. I have MyQ for my driveway gate, never used it for a transformer. Sounds like a viable option. Like I said from the beginning, there's a number of options... none of them perfect. Good Luck! Dave

Vivino was recommended by a waiter (at a restaurant with a really nice wine cellar). I think I downloaded the Drynk app right after, just to see if I liked either one better than the other (functionality, ease of use....), and never made a decision! I usually snap a pic of wine (bottles) that we like and save them on both apps, as well as in an album in my photos app (front and back label pics--can only use one pic on Vivino and Drynk). I use the apps and pics more as a reminder of what wines we like (and prices we paid) than for the reviews, except for my own reviews.

They used to talk it up. Perhaps there was consumer resistance. I know when I got my Miele coolers, my wi-fi was internal only, mostly for the stereo, and the remote vision module was expensive. It can do things like call you if someone leaves the freezer open, and phone home to tell the techs what the trouble is, but I've had a few reasons to call the techs and they speak human very well, and are very helpful and accommodating without the gizmo. The apps are newer, but I don't even use the Anova app for my circulator. It seems like a bother. I look up the times and temps I want and just set it manually. While there is potential there, it's more of "toys for boys" kind of thing so far, the gizmo that gets the missus her double the price of the big box store appliance. That's a standard kind of marketing tool that predates the world wide web. ;)

You can see one of the differences in the screen shots you posted. In the lower shot (Android/IPad) on the right, the route doubles back onto Drayton Street where the upper shot (PC) goes to Bull street and takes a left. Not shown is where the original map (PC) shows turning left onto Jones Street where the Android/IPad map shows making a left turn a block later onto Charlton. All three are accessing the same link but it's being read differently by two and I was curious as to why. Thanks for taking time to respond.

If your provider is verizon they have wonderful help forums on their site with members helping other members. The the other major carriers also have forums. I am with verizon and have gotten great help from the forums plus verizon has a nice online chat. Mary

I've always had great over the phone customer and tech support from Verizon. Their tech support is so good, it should make other companies envious. Every question gets answered, almost anything is possible, and they always have useful suggestions. And you usually don't have to wait long, to talk to a real person who speaks English.

I don't think they offer Nokia phones right now. For whatever reason, Nokia's never seemed to have had a big CDMA presence.

I agree about their customer service. If you read on the verizon forums a lot don't feel that way. Right now I read some problems where people went into a store to just see their options for upgrading phones but didn't do anything and next day find out there unlimited data was taken away and dropped to 2gig. I just can't believe this. Mary

Verizon changed its pricing model. It used to be that phone calls were measured (you paid for different levels of minutes of usage) and data was unlimited. Now it's the opposite, they're pushing unlimited call minutes and tiers of data usage.

There was a date in June, before which you could start one last 2 yr period of unlimited data IF you already had an unlimited data plan and had an upgrade to use. Otherwise, no longer available. I think other carriers have similarly put an end to unlimited data. Why - because they can, and with the popularity of smart phones, data is driving usage (and stressing system capacity) more than calling is.

The resulting 2gb limit is high. I'd say it's bordering on impossible for one person to reach with normal use UNLESS someone wants to watch movies and TV in a location where Wifi isn't available OR uses their phone for navigation A LOT.
