Andrea, After speaking with Sony support this afternoon, my dad had a cyber shot and Viao computer (I now have but don't use), they suggested the links I provided to you. At a minimum it should allow access through device manager. As I suggested above you can get a USB card reader, sorry I didn't clarify for older cards as well. I appreciate the way you treat folks that try and help you. It is no wonder others now refuse to help you. I may be wrong but since you won't try what is suggested, as usual, we will never know. donnas ... Virus program you might want to make sure the program itself is upgraded to latest version. And then keep the virus definitions updated daily.. should be ok for a while.. how long of a while would be strictly a wild guess. edit; Here is a list of anti-virus programs and their estimated end of life dates with xp .. at MajorGeeks site Personally if I had an XP computer, I don't think I would feel comfortable with online banking or bill paying or anything that might affect monies in the future. hald ... you can manually download and install 8.1-update1. Might save you from downloading it twice,,, once on each computer. See the link below. You need to make sure you have KB2919442 installed first.. before installing the about 700mb KB2919355, after that's installed run windows update again and it will offer about a 200mb custom version of the 355 to finish it off with all the other kb's built in it. This MS August update disaster is causing issues with Win 7.1, too. I had to do some pretty fancy footwork to get Win Updates to work after deleting 2982791. I finally succeeded by accessing it through "Restore Hidden Updates"...allowing a hidden update to load. Then, MS in its infinite wisdom...automatically installed the replacement for 2982791. I later uninstalled 2970228 and went through the whole ugly procedure again...only this time I had to remove the hidden update that I'd previously installed. Don't ask! GRRRRRR MS finally installed 2993651 from the restore page and life has been back to normal ever since. I should add that no repair tool worked trying to get Win Updates to work/repair itself. The repair tool ran and reported the Update tool was repaired. It wasn't. And I went round and round with that issue for a while until I just finally worked every trick I could think of with the Restore Hidden Updates temporarily repairing the problem. Currently...peace reigns! It's going to be very interesting to see what September brings. Anne

Hi Emma, Nice to meet you. "Smiles" I have read while doing my search on my problem with Windows Update that there were people who didn't want it automatically to run. This computer is still under warranty and they don't want me to make any changes to the updates. I had never had any problems with it until now. I understand that with some things, it is best to do it your way and that is just a preference on your part and I see nothing wrong with that. I went in and removed something last night that was running at startup and I felt it wasn't necessary, so I shut it off from the program itself. I never set it to automatically update it was like that when I bought the computer. I would have wanted that problem fixed anyway. With it being a problem I wasn't sure how it would have affected the update with it being set the other way. (not being set automatically). That was my thinking when I wanted it fixed. It's fixed now and I am very happy about it. Thank you for your input I really appreciate it. thirdfrt!!!
