Uninstalling McAfee

Posted by deew (My Page) on

McAfee came on my Dell computer. I want to get rid of it and install Avast. I tried using Revo Uninstaller on McAfee, but when it got about two thirds of the way through, it stopped. I've used RU before, and it usually goes fast. This time it won't finish at all. I've tried three times with the same result. I also can't find an uninstaller in the McAfee software. How do I uninstall it?

I have Win7

Click the link I provided, a box will open save the file to your desktop. Once it's on the desktop double click it and run it. You should already have the Avast set up file on the desktop if not go ahead and download Avast free just don't install it, until you run the McAfee Product Removal Tool (MCPR.exe)

This tool MCPR.exe is called the McAfee Product Removal Tool.

Let us now how that works or if there are any issues with the link.

deew,

Here may even be a better tool should you have issue with (MCPR.exe)

AppRemover utility enables the thorough uninstallation of security applications like antivirus and antispyware from your computer.

RE: Uninstalling McAfee

Thanks, zep. I had already downloaded Avast, and since I have DSL, I disconnected the Internet before attempting to uninstall McAfee. I followed your recommendation and all went well. McAfee is gone, and Avast is installed and updated. You always come through for me, and I appreciate it so much.

I have one last question on a slightly different subject. Is Windows Firewall in Win7 good enough, or should I disable it and go with Zone Alarm?

windows 7 firewall should be fine. It is what I am using on mine.

by the way using appremover is a great way to go when trying to get rid of especially Norton or McAfee, it is really made for that. Glad you got it removed.

Suggest also doing a file search for the word mcafee to see what turns up.
