Proxy settings

I have windows 7 and have been having trouble with it and have been trying to get Advanced Teck Support to check it out but my computer won't let them do a remote thing. I have Hughes Net and they tell me I shouldn't have any problem, but when they try to get on my computer threw the remote thing it tells them the proxy settings won't let them connect. I have been trying for 2 days now and they still can't connect. Hughes Net said I don't have a proxy setting since it is satelite?? I have checked everything and don't see any proxy setting and it is checked that I can use the remote assistant thing but it sure won't let them..any ideas. Thank you. I have also disabled the firewall and that didn't help either.

Looked in Control Panel at Internet Options, Connections tab. Usually DSL and regular networking would have absolutely nothing checked in that window or in the
Lan Settings window.

Look in Internet Explorer for the same settings.. should match control panel with absolutely nothing checked.

Look in your other browsers too... Firefox options its the last tab, Advanced, then Network, internet Settings button ... make sure its checked 'No Proxy'

Control Panel, Network & Sharing Center.. on left, Change Adapter Settinngs, then right click and select Properties... See anything in there that may be a proxy program ?

I have checked them both and nothing is checked in either. I only have IE browser. Checked the other thing to and nothing there either.

Here is where I think I am... There are no more updates except for a few programs relating to internet explorer which I am not using. There is one suggestion that I update to a newer version of xp. I will put this on hold for now. I went back to the microsoft website to check on the removal tool capabilities. The worm blaster is an alias of msblast. So I do not have a virus at least as far as microsoft is telling me. One solution posted on a link from the win32 host process link that was suggested earlier was that the problem was simply a driver problem. So I have my driver installation disk in hand. I could reinstall it... question is do I have to change the boot up procedure to do it or just stick it in and let it fly. I don't see that this would hurt in any way unless other vendors modify drivers already on the system. I have no printer or scanner and only 4 or 5 outside vendor packages. The other approach would be to determine the state of my drivers currently on the system. I am not sure how I do that. One factor I rechecked today. When I connect to the internet my selection on control panel/internet connections/ is changed to ... never dial a connection. When I disconnect from the internet I can sign back on but cannot connect to any web page. I have to bring up the control panel... and change the choice to... always use my default number. The funny thing is that I checked my wife's computer (same as mine only newer with identical software)and her choice always is... never dial a connection yet she never has a problem reconnecting to the internet. go to that webshield area like above and look where it says scanned count if that shows actual numbers as a count and not zero or if you go to pages and that number does change it is ok if it is not changing then there could be a problem. Do you have zone alarm by any chance? because for some of us there was a conflict and we had to change a proxy setting in our browsers when using Avast. There is a thread on here about that which may turn up on a search, I had posted the directions on how to set it up. This page from the Avast forum also tells how to do that. A couple of tips so you don't worry needlessly: When you click on WP nothing happens except an icon appearing in the Notification Area. Click on the icon to activate WP. Be prepared to hear Scotty. You will know what I mean. When in the Services and Startup tabs never delete entries. Only disable them. This allows you to correct errors in judgement. It is ok to disable WP in the Startup. It will then become an on-demand application rather than running behind the scenes, and it will run normally when activated. When WP is open do not be surprised when asked to allow applications to be entered into the Startup. Unless you are 100% sure you want this just select no. If you use SuperAntiSpyware and have it configured not to run in realtime be prepared to have the above request to occur. If you say no another ugly sounding window referring to removal of SAS will appear. As they say about drugs....just say no. Things will remain operational and remain not in realtime. DA

1. Open up Internet Explorer.

2. Click on the Tools menu and then on Internet Options.

3. Click on the Connections tab.

4. Click the LAN Settings button.

5. Uncheck the box for proxy server.

6. Check the box for "Automatically detect settings".

7. Click OK.

Follow all those steps once more and see what happens

Well I did that now, but when they where trying to connect a thing kept popping up and when I would go to the proxy settings I checked that one once to try it too and nothing happened. They are to call me back yet today and try again but so far no call from them. TY
