Just to be clarify... it happens some times not all the time. I just opened IE 8 to go to the Hydrangea Forum (my default starting page) and got hung up. So I tried going here by cliclking on one of my favorites links and got humg up; had to refresh to see the page. On the other hand, when I first posted this inquiry, I took the same steps and had no problems. By the way, I have rebooted sometimes when this occurs and it does not seem to help always. I have noticed this issue maybe during the last week??? or something like that. Maybe a little bit longer.

In the past I have had the delay with Preview and Submits but not for a year maybe.

Try installing a second browser like Chrome, Opera or Firefox to see if the issue is with IE or something else. Any of these browsers will not interfere with anything else or run in the background using your resources.

You mention being 10 minutes late? You mean the clock in the lower right corner? If perhaps the onboard battery is failing, these are only $3 or $4 and easy to replace. It is a CR2032 battery most likely.

Have you checked your computer speed? It 'could be' your internet service provider.

I'm convinced that my AT&T DSL has a lot, I mean a lot, of fits and starts. I've no other explanation for some sporadic slow downs.

Always the first thing to try is clearing your cache in the browser you are using and your cookies etc. Sometimes a bad one can cause these type problems.

Click Tools, and select Delete Browsing History.
Deselect Preserve Favorites website data, and select Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History.
Click Delete.

It does sound like the problems I sometimes have on my laptop. When it happens I check and find that I'm connected directly to my router instead of my range extender. When I change the connection those problems go away. In other words the problems (for me) are caused by signal strength. Maybe 2 bars instead of 5.

Slow Gardenweb browsing is what drove me to try Firefox a few years ago...IE just hung up all the time on GW. I am really happy with Firefox so it was a win situation.

Yes it quite often is due to some of the ads on the various pages. So using firefox with ad block plus and easylist subscription will very often eliminate those problems since you no longer have to deal with the ads loading, which speeds up pages quite a bit.

Comment: No, that is not what I meant. When I was replying, I REPLY'ed with no problems and then got hung up when I hit SUBMIT. That took so long that I decided to hit the refresh button. As a result of doing the refresh twice, I noticed that my reply posted twice but each reply was 10 apart from the other one.

Comment: my PC is connected to a router by wire so I do not think I can do more. The other laptops are usually "off" when I have had these hang ups.

I hate those ads although I understand why they put them but geee, for some reason I could care less about the products being displayed. I mean, show me a Minute Maid ad that just talks nice about Minute Maid... and you think I would click on the ad just because??? Lord.

Yes totally free you add them to the firefox browser. If you have firefox already just add the ad block plus add on. Then go get the easylist subscription from here.
