photos from cell phone to computer

I have a Virgin cell phone that takes pictures which I have a few of and would like to transfer them to my computer. I bought a new Sync Cable today which I am able to plug into both my phone and also my computer. I have plugged every thing in and it has not transfered any of my pictures over. It says on Picasa that I should be able to transport them over by going into import, but there is no place that says anything about a cell phone. Please can some one give me some direction as to what I should do next?????

Assuming the driver installed, the phone should show up in My Computer as a new drive. You may need to navigator through the "drive" (phone) to find your photos.

If that doesn't work you'll need to download and install the appropriate software from Virgin Mobile or the cell phone manufacturer.

If you have a card reader on your computer that reads phones card, use the card reader and transfer the information off the card.

What great options. Digitizing a lifetime of music, voice recordings, movies, etc sure is time consuming. But it's wonderful there are so many options out there. Raven- I had forgotten all about Heartland catalogue. It's been probably 20 years since I ordered from them. Those are some great gadgets. The one with lp too is a bit pricey - esp. since I have a cd recorder connected to my turntable. It's a lot less convenient than having it by the computer - but it works well. The one for just tapes looks good. Grandms'- I don't need the turntable portion, but your post made me think that with the right cables (do you happen to know what they are?) I should be able to hook up my old compact stereo/cassette player to my computer. My question about that has always been that I don't think i have an input into my sound card. Does that mean I have an integrated sound card (without its own input port). But there must be cables that could transfer from a stereo to a usb port. Heck - are there cables that go to a firewire port - or perhaps that's overkill for music files. What's Pyro? Did that come with turntable - or just a program you have? I assume Roxio cd creator could do that - burn a cd? how did you find Cakewalk easier than Audacity? I think I've heard good things about both. And Urlee and Jean love Audacity and find it easy. So I'd appreciate any other thoughts in deciding which software to use? Thanks. Lynn.

Thanks all for your replies. your suggestion would work but unfortunately I cannot get a cell phone signal at my house, we are in a river valley. I could do the sending pix to my email if i'm on the road but that wouldn't be very practical. Through the links that Zep supplied I did get a Motorola driver installation program to download but when I hooked up the cell phone via the usb cable it would not open the program. The info I found says that the phone may have a wrong "mode" set and needs to be reset. I searched the instruction manual and tried to find setting of that type on the phone but it was a no go. Again, using the links that Zep suggested I did find the tool program I need for $9.99 on Amazon. I went ahead and ordered it, hopefully that will do the trick. thanks again

I have the minimum data plan on my phone, with the phone I got, smartphone, you are required to have a data plan, I am with Att. What I do is go into settings and turn off mobile network for Internet. That way I know I am not using up my data plan, but I can access the Internet via wifi with no costs, at home I have wifi so I can use it all I want or any where I have a wifi connection. Now if I am out and about and find I need to access the Internet and no wifi around then I go to settings and turn on the mobile data connection. I can then connect to the Internet to get the information I need then turn it back off. I have an app on my phone that keeps track of exactly how much I have used on both the mobile network and wifi. One thing that will eat up your data plan is if you allow the apps and stuff on the phone to update automatically, because if they all decide to update when you are on the mobile connection that definitely uses up quite a bit. If I turn on my mobile network I always go to settings before that and turn off auto updates, so I know nothing will be using it but me for what ever I am looking up. I learned that fast, the first day I had my phone and checked my data used I already had used over 20 mb and my plan is only 200mb for the whole month. I don't use texting so I don't have it in my plan but I didn't know that at first so I texted a few people and sent pictures in texts I found out those were charged to me individually and the picture ones were quite expensive. I don't do that ever. So if you can do it this way you can get away with the minimal data plan of 200mb if you will be using mostly the mobile network instead of wifi I would go for a larger data plan. You can definitely go up in plan size not sure about down.

It depends on the phone and the carriers. There's a number of different types of service out there too. For instance different carriers use different frequencies (CDMA, PCS, GSM, etc) SIM cards are suggestive of GSM technology used by Tmo and ATT. If you're looking to use prepaid service you can sometimes use the phones but won't always have all the features. If you're looking for a contract service, then as cautioned before, beware of costs to change. Often the smallest thing will extend your contract. For instance, if you get a new phone, you generally get a new (extended) contract with hefty cancellation fees. You'll have to get more info from the companies, but generally speaking, Tmo will not be interchangeable with Virgin and Verizon. Tmo & AT&T are more likely to be options. Probably not answering your question, but not an easy question to answer!

Not all cellphones are card-ready, and some cellphones have them as a user option.

I have emailed pics from Verizon phones and Tracfones, both Motorolas. I just put my email address in as a phone number. Then send a text message with the pic added by "insert pic". Works for me, it is tricky putting the email address in, have to change from fonts to symbols twice for the @ . and for numbers. Once in though, works good.

I just email them to myself from the phone works great. I then access my email from my pc and from there save to the pc.

To deb_pa: I did every thing that you suggested and got my e-mail address in with no trouble, but when I went to text myself a message and add the picture, nothing came onto my computer. What am I doing wrong????

Should have worked, check email address on phone. It's easy to make a mistake when changing fonts. Did the phone say sending? Maybe your phone uses a different format than the PC and wouldn't show up in the email. When sending myself a text I have to choose "mms" format on my tracphone. I have 3 or 4 choices and if I don't choose the right one mine won't go either.

when you use your cable are you going into my computer as was mentioned and looking for what drive that cell phone is being listed as? you need to do that and then open that drive and in there you will find your various folders the pictures will be in one of those, on mine it is called DCIM in there are all of my pictures I can then save them from that folder to my pc, either drag and drop to the location you want on the pc or just right click and copy to.

If you can email from that phone then you can easily do as I had mentioned before just open your email compose an email and do attachments add the pictures from their location on your phone to the email and send the email to your own email address then access the email on your pc and there you will have the pictures to save to the pc.
