Can some one explain what a Proxy Server is and how itworks. My one laptop will not connect to any of my browsersbut my other 3 computers will connect. Help
In computer networks, a proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers
Hi gloriam
A Proxy can also get installed by Malware. So if you're having an issue, you can remove the proxy from IE OR Firefox.
In Internet Explorer you can visit this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2289942
Run the fixit and it will remove any proxy.
If this was the result of Malware, then you should have additional diagnostics scans run.
In Firefox see http://smallbusiness.chron.com/turning-off-proxy-server-settings-firefox-31693.html

PS: Here's what a Malware proxy looks like in some of the logs,
IE - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings: "ProxyServer" = http=127.0.0.1:5555
That's a malware proxy setting.
