Probably young folk who read an article where one named their wifi that and the rest who wanted to be unique all followed suit sheep like.

You can name you router (SSID) anything. One of my neighbors uses something that isn't appropriate to repeat in this forum.

Your router and/or modem may be going. Might also want to check you connections and if you have a discrete network card, reseat that as well.

Ok just thought it was strange the only time I see another connection in there is when my internet drops and it happens to be that name. Next time if it's light outside gonna see if there are any vans parked on the street, he he. Have checked and re-chcecked connections. Will leave it be unless it dies for good. Mary

The only reason you're seeing other networks is because you dropped the connection to your network and Windows is looking for alternatives. I'd suspect that if you looked, you'd find the FBI is there all the time. ;-)

No I really y don't see any other connections in there except for when this happens. Not even on my kindle fire or the laptop. When I travel away from home with the laptop and kindle I see other connections show up. I only see that one connection appear when my signal drops and after I reboot the router its gone.

Probably router going so will look at them next time I pass best buy. I said 8yrs but it might be longer than that. Up until now it was problem free so will probably just get the same one. Mary

Maybe whoever at least occasionally fires up the "Party Van" router is operating on(or near) the same channel as you and causing enough interference to make you lose connection?

If so you might try changing your channel.

I'm just guessing but it might be worth trying.

An eight year life for a router is pretty good. You got your money's worth out of that one. Networking problems often mysteriously go away when you set up a new one. (Meaning, when they die, they often exhibit odd behavior that can mistakenly thought to be something else.)

Most are rather light and poorly made, there's not much to them.

yes definitely try changing the channel on your router you can try a few different ones to see if that helps. You do have your security set on WPA2 right? and you do have the secure long passcode for the wifi network?
Also sometimes other items in your home may be on a similar frequency and can interfere so changing the channel can help or moving other items like cordless phones to other locations or moving the router.

How do I change the channel on the router? Yes to the other things. No landline anymore so no cordless phones. Another thing the router is not wireless but I have one of the blue and black linksys boxes hooked to it to make it wireless that is just a little less older than the router so wonder if that could be going instead of the router.

Years ago was not thinking of wireless laptops and such then about 2yrs after getting the high speed son wanted to connect in his room with his game system and he bought the linksy set up to do that so that is what is hooked to my router to have wireless. Mary

Well that blue and black linksys box is a wireless router, what is the other thing that you are calling the router? Could it be possible that is the modem? If you connect through cable or dsl etc then you would have a modem that the direct connection plugs into then that connects to the linksys wireless router which provides the wireless capabilities.
It would be in the linksys wireless router that you can change the channel settings. Can you please look at the linksys and give the model information and we can give you instructions on how to enter the settings.

Yes excuse my dumbness today it's a motorolla surf board modem that is hooked to the linksys. Mary

OOps will have to get the model later. I checked all the connections again to make sure and so far so good so maybe something was loose but it was only happening very sporadid so it might be a few weeks beofore it ever happens again if at all. Mary

Ok model is WRT54g and here is the user manual but I think I may know the cause of the problem. Well I was not paying attention to all the papers that got piled on it on the desk and the antennas were both down so if junk was blocking the antennas would that do it? Cleared that up today and put the antennas back up and will just have to wait and see but would love the channel info for future reference. Only other wireless thing next to it is my printer and then the cable box for the TV since I hook my modem to a splitter off the TV. Mary
