Cannot do search in the Outlook

My home PC has Vista, and Outlook 2007.

I only have 160 mails in the Inbox, the rest of the mails are kept in Archieve folders.

Nonetheless, I cannot do any search in any of the mail folder without getting a message " Outlook is currently indexing your items. Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. 9780 items remaining in "personal Folders". 14377 items remaining across all open mailboxes".

I may have 2000 eamils in total, I have no clue where the "9780 and 14377 items" come from.

Please help with this issue, should I re-install Outlook?

You might want to talk a look at the attached Microsoft help page. Indexing is part of Windows itself, not Outlook.

Mike, thank you for the inputs. Unfortuntely, the indexing still does not work.

When I double clicked Index Options, the new window showed "Indexing is not running". The "modify" botton was inactive. Only the "Advanced" botton was active. When clicked on it, it asked for permission to run "Advance Index Option". I clicked OK. Then I got another window, the only active choice was "restore defaults", then a message apeared saying " delete index...next time when your computer restarts it complete rebuild locations using complete index default settings. This might take a long time". I followed the instructions, restarted the computer, it still showed "indexing is not running", Outlook still refused to search.

What should I do now?

I have just loaded Outlook on a new notebook, Outlook 2002. I've used this version of Outlook since 2002, but alas that notebook did a big crash. The good news, I had all but the last two days of message folders on a back up drive, in a folder called "Exchange". Now, on my old XP home there was a folder called "OutlookFolders" which had "Exchange" and other details in it. So, all I need to do is copy the back-up data into the new computer's "OutlookFolders", but I can't find them, nor can the XP search. I do have folders maked to shoe hidden. Any help would be appreciated.

urlee, I know what you mean about dialup. I just got high speed in February. I did find the answer to my problem with OE. Just on the off chance something might show up I checked my e-mail settings at my server for my e-mail. When I clicked the button to make changes it showed I had nine letters (shown as dots) in my password, but I knew it should have only 8. I deleted what was there and re-entered my password and saved it. I then went to OE and low and behold it worked. I have no explanation how the password could have gotten changed since it has worked since Feb. when I got high speed and they helped me set up OE as my e-mail. I don't know what my friend did to give me a little more speed, but I don't think he would have been in my server website. Go figure? I am just glad I found it, and it is working. I myself (having used Outlook 2007) don't know enough about these things to know whether it might be something about your recipients' mail settings or not. But if you're able to send an email successfully to yourself with the image showing inline, it might mean that something about your version of Outlook (what version is it, btw? 2003? 2007? 2010?) is triggering the removal of the image from the body of the message. But I would think if that were the case, then your recipients would at least get the notification "some images have been removed for your safety; click here to display them." Incidentally, you said you sent the test emails to yourself. I take it you viewed those messages in your offline client (Outlook). Did you also view them in your webmail to see if they displayed inline there as well? As another resource, you might want to check the Outlook forums here. I've used them in the past and have gotten good help. I did a quick search there for your issue and found two from 2010 here and here. In neither case did the OP continue the thread, so I have no idea if anything was resolved, but the answers didn't seem to encouraging. :-( But if your version of Outlook is more recent than those available at the time, there may be different settings to try, so you may wish to inquire there anyway. ???

Thanks Ladies...... Cat - I don't think the judge would have really listened to both sides if the claims BM made did not seem so outrageous and DH and I had not been collecting all of the information we did. BM in this case really took it way to far with the false allegations.... she claimed DH's entire family and myself and daughter were all against and abusing SD..... Of course the worse things were pointed against myself. But we had tons of things to counter as well..... pictures, dvd's of family events and vacations we took SD on, and the other things BM left as a paper trail.... letters from the school, daycares and doctor. It was extremely stressful to have to go through a BM trying to take away joint custody from my DH simply because he got married and to see all the lies and allegations.... BUT like the judge said - because DH got on that stand and said he did not want to take custody away from BM - he just wanted to have a peaceful relationship with his daughter and was willing to give BM another shot at trying to be mature - the judge as she put it is giving BM "custody probabtion" and hopefully BM will take her words to heart. We have been so much more peaceful at our home - and just to see SD be more peaceful when we pick her up or when she comes - lets us know that maybe the alienation for now has ceased. I just am hoping the situation remains peaceful for now - and this story may help someone else out in some kind of way.

Mike,

Thank you again. Tried everyting, nothing worked.

Purchasing a PC wih Vista is one of the biggest regrets in my life.

I am seriously thinking about installing a new OS.... or asking Santa for a new Apple.....

I have a PC with Vista and haven't had any major problems.

Have you tried running a check disk?

Click Start
In the Search box type CMD and hit enter. A window will open with a command prompt.
At the command prompt type CHKDSK /F and hit enter
You'll get a message about the volume being in use and asking you if you want to do it on restart. Hit Y (I don't think you need to hit enter but it won't hurt anything if you do). Close the window and reboot your computer. Check disk will run as your computer reboots. Depending on the size of your drive, it may take a while to finish.

As I just commented in another thread.....

Can you access your email account directly using a browser? That might be easier for you, and allow you to do the searching you want. Or maybe not, it's easy enough to try.
