The beauty of using POP3 with a mail client to download your mail OFF the server is that the client is completely independent of the server "platform" and webmail interface thereof ... or even WHICH server carries the account. The user can switch ISPs at will, and even the e-mail address and hosting server ... and it's a simple matter of making the same changes in the existing user account IN the mail client to match the server.

Sorry if I did not understand your post as being as such if is.
I need simple instructions here.
With the change over, I will NOT be able to open Windows Live Mail until my server's NEW info is entered into WLM. My question is, how do I go about that without deleting WLM and starting all over with what I did in the first place. I do not want to lose WLM version 9 that came with this computer.
Maybe I am wrong in thinking WLM will not open after the change over, being my server is Default of it?

I don't use Windows Live Mail ... but my understanding is it's largely the same as Outlook Express. If not, you'll have to wait for someone else to come along with the correct answer, as I am not going to install WLM for testing purposes.

There should be a menu selection to access the account configuration. In OE it was under Tools / Accounts.

Dig further into those settings to find the entry fields for the incoming and outgoing server and other such settings. Enter the changes and that should be it. Presumably your user name (e-mail address) won't change, but enter the correction if it does. Same for the password.

Of course, get the details on the new server names and related settings from your service before you go in to make the changes.

By server do you mean your internet server or gmail. I have tried yahoo and gmail, one would not reroute unless you got the paid email. I have Cox and Windows live mail. I route my email to my computer through WLM which I downloaded. I clicked on accounts and a form came up to fill out. I had to call Cox to get the information to fill in the POP and SMTP boxes.

By server, I mean Internet provider. Windows 7 does not have Outlook Express so I had to use WLM to take the place of. When I first installed it, it used the wizard bringing up a box for me to enter my server settings.
I would like to know how I can get to that box to change what is there to the new info of the server. The change takes place beginning Oct. 6 and I want to be all set to know what and where to go to do it to be prepared.

The reason I am so hepped up on getting WLM to work is cause that mail opens faster for me than it does directly from the server sight.

when I open my email there is an icon in the upper left hand corner with a down arrow. Click on options, then e mail accounts, it has an "at" icon in front of it. Then highlight the account you want to change and then properties. These directions may vary with the version of WLM you are using. You will need the info from the server on the one you are using or the one you will be using.

Urlee, I think if you will wait until your ISP has made the change, you will then be able to make whatever adjustments are necessary to continue to use WLM v.9. Like you, I have had gmail as my mail but not connected in any way to my ISP. My ISP has their own mail program, and I do not use that. I have used gmail for years with several different ISPs and when I moved to a new location last year, I did not have to change my e-mail address, since gmail is always available to use regardless of who your ISP is.

I believe you are worrying over something that is not going to be a problem at all.

What I have experienced and is the reason why I am thinking overtime, is when I use my laptop at a friend's house "wireless" on their server, I can open WLM but NOT receive or send mail? MY server has to be connected in order to use it.
That is why if I do not have the new information entered in WLM, it will not function and am desperate in finding that spot to change come time to.
Emma, I do not have that icon upper left but some on the right to where I shall try to see if I can find what you are describing here to do. Will check them out. Thanks.

In that situation can't you just go on line and retrieve your email at your server's site if it is that important. When I am on a trip I go to my server's site, sign in and I get it there. It still goes to my home computer.
