Lost Sound

I purchased a HP Pavillion with an i7 processor recently for my daughter, who's at university. She has lost sound, and the HP tells her there is no program to open her tunes. In the Remove window I saw IDT Sound, but haven't been able to find the program to start it up again. The only thing I've been able to suggest to her now that she is back to school is to find out the exact model by looking in the battery compartment and go to HP's driver download webpage. Any other suggestions?

Okay...I've now had time to look into my sound issue. I'm getting sound from Media Player and from e-mail that I receive with sound...there is more than one screen saver that has lost sound, but they came from the same site. Do I still need a driver if I am getting sound from these other places? what to do, what to do.....

I would say Avast is as good as many others and it is free. as well as one from AVG. Give it a shot. If you dont like it, you can always go back to Trend Micro. Also, if you dont have a Firewall installed give a look at ZoneAlarm (also free). Some anti Spyware programs available (free) are Spybot Search and destroy, AdawareSE Personal and SpywareBlaster (which runs in the background stopping spyware from loading. Make sure SpywareBlaster is updated every couple of days to get new signatures. The others, update each time before using.

I to have a simular problem. My father in law can over and looked at my TV Model# PR3052-A102 Serial# 29283525 Chassis# PTV520-AH01 This is a Magnavox Big Screen This all started about a month ago. It started getting dimmer and dimmer until it now will not powerup completely. When I turn on the set, we do not here the High Voltage come on, but I do get the green power light on, and when I turn up the volume, I hear static (it is not plugged into a cable line). So, when he looked at it he found that it does not have High Voltage and the Blue CRT/Lens does not light up at the bottom (the other 2 do).When I look into the CRT/Lenses, it is dark. In addition, he found a resistor (R934) burned out. He suggested replacing R934 and possible the Horizontal Output Transistor (Q906). Problem is that we do not know wha the part#/value of these items are as we do not have a schemetic for the unit, I contact www.servicemanuals.net and they are looking for one for me. But as for now, does anyone know what I need to do to replace it? Also any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bret

I always mention the easiest first, make sure it is not muted or disabled.
Try getting vlc player free and see if that makes things show up again. Some times installing a program that utilizes the same features helps.

To help her have all of the information on the computer and what is in it have her go to belarc. com and get the free belarc tool which will provide her all the information and she can print it out to have handy.

Lol...I saw ravens response, and I went "Duh! Why didn't I think of that?" Checking for a muted sound is so simple, and I use Belarc Advisor fairly often when troubleshooting systems.

And I have used the Microsoft Fix It tool to resolve issues in the past.

I had a person tell me to stop trying to over-think the solution to problems. I resemble that remark.

Well, I did everything you suggested and no luck. As a last resort, I reinstalled the audio drivers from HP and voila!
