I, like perhaps other members, didn't have a clue as to what the original thread contained. After doing a search with the engine provided on the homepage I found it on page three. You might want to consider putting update posts on the original thread. When it pops to the top members know there is new information. Pam (pkponder) my be right, do you have a second keyboard to try? Value Village will sell you one for a couple of $$ if you do not have one or cannot borrow one for a few hours. Check the Event viewer click Start click Control panel click System and Security in Administrative Tools click to view events log in the new window click Windows log on the left side click System in the drop down choices the events now show in the centre panel so scroll down looking for red error messages and if you find any double click on each to read the error. There will also be a link, if you click that you will go to the Microsoft site with an explanation. To find out which BIOS is installed tap your Delete button a few times as soon as the computer starts and you will enter the BIOS. Change nothing! To leave click the ESC button and agree that you do not wish to save any changes and the computer will boot normally again.

I also did not want to mess too much with my windows so when I boot my machine I immediately hit the Esc key which takes me to the boot order screen and there I select the one I want to boot too, if I don't do that it will default to windows and boot right up to windows. So I only have to access that menu if I am booting into the linux drive. May be weird to some but it works fine for me just one little extra step to take in the bootup for linux. When I select the drive with linux then it begins that boot process, says loading grub and then up comes my Mepis. My linux guru was here visiting last year and that is when we tackled installing the new hard drive, I was glad he was here! I am not very good at that kind of stuff so he handled most of the process. for those considering linux you might check your area to see if there are any Linux user groups or LUGs around that is an excellent way to meet linux users and get hands on help. You can look them up online using google. Mint is a good choice for new users, not sure if openSUSE would be. if you go to distro watch they list all the flavors and you can click on each and get some info on them. I also love the coding studio site, you can click on each distro and see it in pictures, they have changed the site and it is not as good as it used to be but still ok. Here's a link to the Windows 10 media creation tool, directly from microsoft.com: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO I'm far from an expert in this area but, this is what I might do... Download and burn the ISO from the above link. Boot to it and see if it can repair the boot files... A few screen shots taken along the way might look similar to these: That's just what I would try. I don't know if the repair would succeed or not. Maybe there's an easier way that I don't know about?
