EEEks, now what have I done? pics are gone

I have saved pics to my pictures document area, and only find that I have icons of some kind now, I musta done sumpin wrong, but what? I have tried to change things, no dice, anyone want to step up and clue me in? W7 thanks a heap.

If you click on the icons, do the pictures enlarge?

I click, and a menu opens, says open, and I have to go thru this with each one. I must have clicked something without knowing, cuz I have always had pictures, no clicking at all.
Shows what a herky jerky finger can do sometimes.

You guys are the best! I was in a funk... and didn't even want to look in on them the last week or so. Today I went to check and so far the cuttings seem fine. One is still very firm and the other somewhat wrinkled up the top but otherwise ok. I'm tempted to give it a drink of water but I will resist the temptation. The rest of the plants are doing ok outside except for Texas Aggie...she looks like she got root rot. I just came to terms with the fact that despite my best efforts some will die and some will make it. Hopefully those who do will acclimate to our climate and do well. If not I'm just going to have to buy more right? LOL As always thank you for your words of wisdom and support. You guys are amazing! Lynn

You led me to believe there was a crisis but there is none. When you said that the kitchen was dark, I thought you were using a very dark grey. This is not dark grey. As long as the room is light and pleasant and functional in different light situations, there's no problem. Light can be introduced in different ways, including sconces and countertop lamps and more wattage in lighbulbs. If you find the paint needs to be lightened to an even lighter grey, you can always do that with some more paint. You have no urgent need to do any changes for a while. An inspiration picture is for inspiration, not for dictatorship. Go in peace.

I mentioned the borders to dh this morning and he likes the idea. Each of the long sides is about 14'. The shot side is about 10'. The other short side is there the 'bridge' is. I'll look at it tonight with dh and see what we can work out. As far as the layout of the living room. As the furniture is now. Looking at the back of the chairs, you are stading by the dining table and behind you, the kitchen. That opening is about 10' wide. Still looking at the back of the chairs, next to the chairs is the couch. And in front of it is the fireplace and the stairs that lead to the upstairs. The couch is about 12 feet long. I would love if it could put the couch where you could see the back, but it is just too big. We did every arrangement we could think of when we first got it so that we wouldn't have to close off the door way (the blank wall that is now behind the couch). Just to give you a little background of the house. When you stand looking at the back of the chairs, you are standing where the carport used to be. We added about 40' to the end of the house about 6 years ago, doing most of the work ourselves. So that is why the layouts ended up a little strange. The now TV area used to be the dining room and kitchen.

Here's something that's real easy to make--- something for the boys to help with-- they keep well too. The recipe says 2 wks but I do an extra batch each Christmas just for me & store in my back refrig -- they last way more than the 2 wks if stored in an airtight container in the frig. Diane's Home Cookin Chapter: Candy & other confections Sugarplums ========== Ingredients: 1/2 cup finely chopped pitted dates 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts 1/4 cup finely chopped dried apricots 1/4 cup finely chopped dried figs 1/4 cup finely chopped pistachio nuts 2 tablespoons brandy 1 tablespoon apricot preserves 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon ground clove 1/3 cup sugar . Line a small baking sheet with waxed paper. In a food processor, combine the dates, walnuts, apricots, figs, pistachios, brandy, apricot preserves, cinnamon and cloves. Pulse until the mixture begins to clump together. Using a teaspoon, scoop up a rounded spoonful of the mixture, press together, and roll between your palms into a compact ball. Roll the round in the sugar. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining fruit-and-nut mixture and sugar. Refrigerate until firm, at least 1 hour. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Makes about 18 confections. I also have noticed just now, that the folders I have on desktop do no longer show as containing "pages" as they did previously, is this related to the picture icon debacle? Whooda thunk?

Well, that's not at all what happens in my "Pictures library" (Start -- Pictures) in W7.

Start -- Pictures opens what is called "Pictures library". Currently that window has icons for 2 directories ("Sample pictures" -- a collection of pictures which came with the software and which I should have deleted long ago -- and "My pictures"). Clicking on an icon opens that directory.

"My pictures" contains all the pictures I've downloaded, uploaded, or drawn in Paint over the past dozen years or so (the vast majority of which have been organized into sub-directories).

I've never kept files on the desktop, so I can't speculate about that issue. Good luck.

Check the preferences and settings on your file manager ...

See if there is a place to select "show previews" or "show thumbnails"

That should fix it.

Excuse me for being so green, but where am I going to find the file manager, and if there isn't the show previews or show thumbnails, then what.

When you open the PICTURES folder, isn't there a button labeled VIEWS near the top of the window? You might have to hover the mouse pointer over it or it might be labeled. Clicking it should either show you the list of options or allow you to cycle thru them each time it is clicked. That's how it is in XP & Vista...I would expect W7 to be very similar.
