Skype won't connect

I haven't looked through all of the posts I have signed in to Skkype after getting a new password. Then when I sign in the little circle just keeps going around and the message says "Skype isn't connected.' I last used Skype 12-25-13.

Try turning the modem and router off then back on. Try connection with skype..

Have you made any changes to the computer since 12-25-13. Specifically and Anti Virus program?

If you're on a wireless connection try a hardwired connection.

What version of windows are you using ?

You'd think for all the hundreds of millions of Skype users that its software would be more bulletproof. But it seems not to be, my experience is that quirky behavior is sometimes encountered.

Here's what I do when that happens:

Uninstall the Skype app
Reboot your PC
Reinstall it from Skype's website.

That's always worked for me. Post back if your problem continues.

One end of spring is connected to a stationary bar and other end is connected to belt pulley that the backside of belt rides on and is tensioned by the deck release hook if it is a 48" or larger deck. This pully looks like a double pulley and is flatter looking. Look to be sure the spring has a hooked area at both ends. If not then one end is broken off and belt can't be tentioned and you need new spring. Tim

Try a simple reboot first or restart, If that does not work then; un plug the router and modem. Then plug modem in wait for 30 sec. Then plug router in. See if that helps. I can't understand how it's possible to lose a network driver on a new machine or any machine for that matter drivers just don't disappear!

yes and it is often very easy to turn it off by mistake. on my netbook it is a little slider button at the very front edge right where I often grab it and in doing so slide it to off. Look for the little symbol that looks like a satelite dish sort of. Also depending on how old it is it may not have a wireless connection card in it which you can take care of easily. Tell us the model of the laptop. Have you hooked it up to your connection using a wire to make sure you can connect that way and it is not some other problem? If not do that right away. and give us more info on the type of connections you have and the specs on the laptop including the OS.

Checked my updates, found there were a couple for powerpoint,otherwisen, nothing. Since the Geek link is a tad more than I feel I can handle myself, will wait til someone with a bit more knowledge about these things than myself comes along. Should be someone here next week that has some basic skills in behind the scenes puter work, I am just to afraid to make any changes of any kind, I depend on this animal to keep me in touch with the outside world, and would be devastated if I couldn't do that. Therefore, as much as I appreciate your quick response, and probably is another spot on answer, I just don't want to risk it. Please bear with, and if I do get some results, will be back with a happy face I tell ya. Again, thank you for your kindness, and your gentle way of putting things.

A family member was in the kitchen using Skype. When someone else started the microwave oven it disconnected. When the cooking was done, connection was reestablished. Coincidence? I don't think so. Maybe the OP has some unidentified RF interference going on.

Exactly, azinoh. Microwaves do cause interference, An audio signal like Skype doesn't take much bandwidth but any interference can cause a disconnect. Here's some info lifted from a Cisco webpage

"In reality, the many other types of devices emitting in the unlicensed band dwarf the number of 802.11 devices. These devices include microwave ovens, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, wireless video cameras, outdoor microwave links, wireless game controllers, Zigbee devices, fluorescent lights, WiMAX, and so on. Even bad electrical connections can cause broad RF spectrum emissions. These non-802.11 types of interference typically don't work cooperatively with 802.11 devices, and can cause significant loss of throughput. In addition, they can cause secondary effects such as rate back-off, in which retransmissions caused by interference trick the 802.11 devices into thinking that they should use lower data rates than appropriate. "

Umm, the OP fails to state what device this is. My daughter received notice that Skype will no longer be available for her older cell phone. Any similarity?

A bit more built in obsolescence.
