Why not just upload them from your PC instead?

What is the file size? 500MB?

Since its not my interest I can't think of the last time I posted a picture file at any place I visit, but I do know they all have size limits. Isn't the maximum allowed here at Garden Web 60kb?

Snidely, I probably didn't make myself clear. I was trying to upload from my pc while on the Gardenweb gallery. It wouldn't let me upload any photo from my Picasa photos on my pc. If a person wants to post pictures on the Gardenweb Gallery it's my understanding they have to start doing this while on the Gallery. It has a process that guides you through it, but it won't allow me to download pictures at 800 pixels.

I'm finding it very hard to get answers to questions from the folks who manage the Gardenweb Gallery. Do you know who to contact? They don't seem to have anyone managing this gallery that I can find.

You never answered Damccoy's question regarding the photo file size. Right click on the photo then click Properties in the popup menu and you will see the file size.

500 megabytes (mb) is ultra extreme under any circumstances, 500 kilobytes (kb) would be more realistic but still far too large for most forums. Size is usually limited because there is still a segment of the population on dialup and big files create a major headache for those folks.

Create a photo of 50kb and see if you can upload that.

Sorry. The photos I was trying to upload were 2.9mb and 3.0mb respectively. That's not large so I can't figure out why it failed. When in the photo gallery, I used the "Browse" to find the photos on my pc in Picasa. I selected one. It appeared highlighted, then I hit enter (or whatever) to get the process going, but the process just died at that point. It just sat there. After a wait, a message came up saying it failed. I'm thinking it wasn't the size that was the problem, because how the heck could 3 mb be too large? Do you have any ideas?

Download Irfanview. Use it to locate your target photo. Click on Image and select Resize/Resample. On the right half of the appearing window click on the Half radio button twice with a slight pause in between. Click OK and Save under a different file name. This will not effect the original. The new image should be around 90kb and may resolve the concern.

I see two galleries, I've used neither. Trying them just now, they don't seem to get along with Firefox?

If so, it does say "Make sure the image doesn't exceed 500 KB". That being the case, your images are around six time too large.

I'm betting that if, as suggested by DA, you use Irfanview to downsize them first, they'll upload fine.



BTW, the uploader that's available here in these forums(not the gallery) allows a full "5000 k". It resizes the images to make them more bandwidth friendly.

Although it's been a very long time since I've been on dial-up, I remember it being excruciatingly slow. Loading a page containing even a single 3 MiB image would have probably given me time to go brew a pot of coffee, come back and drink a cup. Am I remembering it being worse than it really was? At about 3 KiB/s download speed(I lived way out in the sticks) it would have taken how long? Maybe 1024 secs? 17 minutes? Maybe my math is not precise but the point is that although 3 MiB is small for those with high-speed Internet, for those on dial-up it's really huge.
