LOL I have the same printer and recently updated the driver. Along with the update...I became the disgruntled owner of that "L" shaped icon...and LOL...it drove me bonkers. Right click on the icon when it appears and click on "quit". That will put it back into a subcategory under the Canon Utilities in the "All Programs" list....in Win 7.1. You never need to bring it back to life if you wish to access it from that Utilities site. You can add the "My Printer" from the same location to the desktop toolbar if you want something right up front. It's far less annoying...being one small icon. Nothing in the print queue. Checked out HP Solutions. Everything is updated. I've rebooted several times. I do have the disk, but hope to not have to do that. Those were all good ideas. I went back to the manual and looked through the index, and sure enough, there it was: "delete faxes from memory." Even though I haven't sent any faxes I followed the directions and, voilà�, it prints! But I still hear that noise that I thought was a paper jam. No jam, front or back. I went back to HP Solutions and kept hunting until I found a neat little video that shows how to open the Control Panel to look for a jam there. I tried and it seems like it will take a real hard tug; it doesn't just come open. Now what, should I pull hard on it and hope it opens? Sue

Good suggestions have been given. Another thing to check is the device manager for conflicts and also check the contacts on the printer and the cartridges. A cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol will clean them. If there's a film on them and not making a good electrical contact, it'll cause problems and tell the printer there's no cartridge or a bad cartridge in there. Also you can try resetting the cartridge and put it back in. Make sure they're seated firmly, usually there will be a "snap" or a lever to close on them, but I'm guessing you probably checked that. Will it do a test print? What kind of printer? Check the cable connection to the printer, assuming it's connected by a cable. If it's a wireless connection that can open up another can of worms.

I googled for the wireless network settings on your printer. Sorry, but I am an HP woman :-) The link below has screen shots if a visual presentation is more your style. Here they are nearly verbatim: Selecting Wireless Network Settings From the Control Panel You can select or change wireless network settings using your product control panel. To install your product on a wireless network, follow the instructions on the Start Here sheet and install the necessary software from the product CD. The installer program guides you through network setup. Note: Breakdown or repair of this product may cause loss of fax and network data and settings. Epson is not responsible for backing up or recovering data and settings during or after the warranty period. We recommend that you make your own backup or print out your fax and network data and settings. Press the Setup button. Press the arrow buttons to select Network Settings and press the OK button. Here is where you see your network name and choose to remove or forget the network, then run the wizard. Select Wireless LAN Setup and press the OK button. You see this screen: Select Setup Wizard and press the OK button. Note: If you need to disable the wireless network to set up your product on an Ethernet network, select Disable Wireless LAN instead. Then follow the instructions on the Start Here sheet to set up your product on a wired network and install the necessary software from the product CD. The installer program guides you through network setup. Select the name of your wireless network (SSID) or enter the name manually. Note: To enter the wireless network name manually, press the arrow buttons to select Other SSIDs and press the OK button. Use the displayed keypad to enter your network name, as described in the next step. Enter your wireless password (or network name and then password) using the displayed keypad. Note: If your password has uppercase (ABC) or lowercase (abc) letters, make sure you enter them correctly. Press the arrow buttons to highlight a character or a function button displayed on the keypad. Then press the OK button to select it. To change the case of letters or select symbols, select AB12 (uppercase), ab12 (lowercase), or !#%@ and press the OK button. Then highlight an option and press the OK button to select it. To enter a space, select and press the OK button. To delete characters, select the back arrow and press the OK button. When you finish entering characters, select Done and press the OK button. Confirm the displayed network settings and press the OK button to save them. Note: If you need to change a setting, press the Back button. If you want to print a network setup report, select Yes and press the OK button. (Otherwise, select No.) Press the Copy button to exit. The WiFi light should now be on, but not flashing.
