slow to catch up to my typing

I have a problem with my screen catching up to my typing and scrolling.

Every day I have to go to Start - Run - msconfig - general - start up selection - normal - apply and then restart. This helps for a while, but when I close my laptop, once I open it again I have to follow this procedure.

Any advice how to keep these settings? Should I close everything down before I close the computer?

I have Win 8.1 and Firefox.

Maybe you have too much in your start up not needed at that time? they will stay in your programs, but not loading at start up, which slows it down.

How do I know what to keep and what to get rid of? I know there used to be a list (I think it was for Win98!) that I used years ago, but I don't remember the website. Do you have a link that I can find out what to delete and what to keep?

You know that fall is coming when you're already starting to plan for next years yard. I dont know if Im the only one who has already done this, but Im starting to already see what Im planting in the yard for next year and where everything is going to go. But most of my plants are growing better than ever so they havent taken a hit from the shorter days. Cooler weather is on the way here too (Not every day is in the 90s anymore) but fortunately no daytime temps out of the 80s and no night time temps out of the 70s. Summer is really almost over and its sad since it went by so quickly. Fall and winter are my least favorite seasons and my plants arent so crazy about it either! Good luck! -Alex

Karen, glad to hear that you are feeling a little better. I can surely relate to all you have been dealing with. We had the last of our 3 family weddings yesterday, this time my son's. It was a beautiful day and the wedding was just beautiful. It was an outside wedding and reception and it couldn't have been lovelier. She used fall flowers and deco's and her dress was ivory, and after the service, they had a lovely barbecue dinner with great food. I really enjoyed it= the fact that it waas the last of 3 in 3 months time, (also a grand daughter and a grandson) When I finally got home last night, the fibro really hit me. I was so tired and achey that I went to bed at 8:oo. My Dh woke me up this morn and asked if I was going to church, but when I looked at the clock it was 10:10, so I said "I guess not today" I"ve just been dragging all day long, and am so achey I can hardly move without moaning and groaning. I don't think the weather forcast is helping any either , we are supposed to start getting rain tonight that will last through Thursday. I thought if I could just get through these weddings, I would feel better, but I guess the Fibro devil had other plans. I am glad that you are feeling better though. Maybe what is really wrong with me is that I haven't had my "retial therapy" for a couple of weeks. Maybe I just need a few hours out of the house by myself. Take care, Janet

I always like the color overlays on Smokey Mountain Autumn. As a bud builder, if you leave the scapes in place for awhile more buds may appear. I've had mine blooming clear into September. ....The Band Played on is another of yours I like very much but all of them are nice............Maryl

Only, get rid of things you downloaded, things you know did not come in your OS=operating system from Microsoft or mfg. of your PC etc. ( to play it safe)

You don't need things like iTunes or Skype or Adobe Reader, etc., starting up unless you actually need them. If you don't know what something is, do a little homework using Google.

You mention "typing and scrolling" but don't state specifically where you're doing this "typing and scrolling".

Does the lag occur in "Notepad", "Wordpad", "Word", "IE", everywhere?

Or is it only in "Firefox"?

If only in Firefox, I might try something like this:

(1) "Restart with Add-ons disabled..." (Under "Help")

(2) If the lag goes away, I'd start Firefox normally, and manually disable ALL add-ons. (Tools->Add-ons->Extensions)

(3) Re-enable them one at a time, testing to see which one reintroduces the lag.

That's probably only applicable if it's a Firefox specific problem though.

Thanks! Chugger, I did the restart with add ons disabled, it works great, but now no matter where I go I get popup ads before I can see any video or website, whereas I never had this problem before.

Are you using "Adblock Plus"? If so, probably it was preventing the ads before. Since it was disabled along with the other extensions, you're just seeing how good a job it was doing. :)

I suspect you're close though, just need to restart Firefox normally, go into extensions (Tools->Add-ons->Extensions) and figure out which one is causing the problem. By selectively disabling and re-enabling them I mean.
