My guess is that it's the drive. Try this, with more than one disk: -Start Windows Media Player from the All Programs menu. -Put a disk in the drive. -Click on Play, then DVD. Or File, Open, then try to select the D Drive or whichever is the optical drive. What happens?

Hi April, In your past posts you stated the house has 2400 sq. ft. It is difficult for anyone on this forum to state what is the correct size for your air conditioner. The load calculation is the only way to do this properly. I would have much more faith in the contractor who took detailed measurements. It is likely the cooling load somewhere between 3 and 4 tons. One contractor may be rounding up, and the other down. The 2-stage Infinity AC would be a good choice. On the low stage it would be operating around 2.8 tons. You would be comfortable and do a great job of removing humidity. How many days a year does the temperature go above 90 degrees in the summer? I personally think a 21 SEER system is overkill for your part of the country. It is unlikely you will ever see a pay back of the additional cost over the 16 SEER unit.

Cloud_swift is absolutely correct about trees and shade around your home. Color is very difficult in my house because I am surrounded by trees and hills. I have a very tall, steep hill (small mountain) directly behind my house (east) covered in huge oak trees, plus a covered patio, so I get NO direct light in my kitchen...the lights need to be on ALL DAY. Because of this hill, it is around 10-11:00 am before I get the direct sun coming over the hill top and the tree line. I have large maples at each end of my house (north and south) that provide wonderful shade, but again, the end of my house that is slightly north-east gets very little direct sunlight. There are huge pines, spruce, etc in front of the house, which block the evening sun. I do get some nice direct south-west sun in the afternoon at one front corner (office and bedroom), Just to give you some examples: Beiges and tans look dirty/murky in my home. Golden tans look dirty (I tried Believable Buff - terrible - looks great in good light). I have a true soft butter yellow in my DR (front of the house) which is beautiful day or night. Greens look good in my home. I have the feeling the currently popular grays will not look good in my home. I have the feeling the blue-greens or green-blues will look good (thinking Sea Salt, Wyeth Blue, Quietude, etc). Have never used dark colors and don't care for them, but I believe they would "show" well. The point I am making here is the outside greenery and the shade SIGNIFICANTLY factors into my paint colors. Thank you JDS. I dont know why I was focused on just the changes either. I have never tried to understand building codes before so this is new to me. You suggestion makes sense. I tried to print chapter 4 off the web and it wont - which I assume is a way for them to get you to pay for it. I'm not going to do that because I am getting too deep into the weeds as it is. This is a tract home and I dont want to be the customer who shows up every day with a dog eared copy of the building code. I do however want to know enough about what is required and what is above and beyond so that I can have an intelligent conversation with the builder about what is important to me including those things that I might be willing to spend money on. Am I reading the current code to say that builders have to do blower door tests and show 3 ACH or less? (402.4.1.2) If so, my approach should probably be to specify that I would like to see a lower number - something that is achievable with typical materials and maybe a more conscientious attention to detail. Does that make sense? Thanks again
