Avast Problem???

Have anyone gone to the site Fantastic Fiction in the last couple of days?

I went there a couple of days ago and got a warning from my anti virus that they had stopped a malicious URL. I use Avast as my anti virus. When I talked to my daughter on Sat. she had the same thing happen at that site. She uses Avast too.

When I clicked on Details about the malicious URL, I got a page about Avast and one of the things was how I could upgrade (pay for) my anti virus.

Is this just Avast or are others getting the same warning? Will you go there and see if you do too? I got the same thing this morning.

I cleaned out everything....history, cookies etc. to see if that did anything. No, it still does this. I also ran all my programs, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware etc.

If it's Avast trying to get people to buy their product, I will be upset and change my anti virus. I've had Avast for years.

I use AVAST and never seen that, the only thing I have on occasion seen is when the popup that says it has updated it says something about upgrading to pay and also about their mobile version. but that's it.

It is very possible to have malicious links and ads on websites so if you get that I would heed the warning and stay away from it.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will stay away for awhile and see if it's fixed. I have gone to this site for years so I hope they fix the problem. Someone with Norton's went to the site and didn't have this happen. I think Norton's is good but I don't use it anymore as it took up too much of my computer

Susie, I have searched & can't find any Avast on it. I also went into the folders. I just did a search on this one & there is quite a bit Norton leftover on it still. AVG is on too & was working when I stopped using this one. I hope to have another one Monday if everyone would just get well..I don't drive (never learned) & all my rides are truly sick. Cat, I think I will try the XP tonite. I do know it has a LOT of problems & need to be started over..it is not worth spending $150 to do that. Nite before last I was trying to fill out a form to order something.. it took over 30 minutes to do it.. The cursor kept freezing plus it wouldn't scroll without freezing. Some on here can vouch for all the problems I have had. If I can get it running I can at least check to see if there is anything else I want saved. I tried to keep things saved as I knew this day was coming. Yes I know now the APC is probably why it wouldn't turn on but I don't think that had anything to do with the other problems. The XP took about 20 minutes to reboot.. this 98 is very fast doing it. Thanks, Dar

I am wondering if I might have the same problem. I attemped an update with restart yesterday. Later in the day my computer wouldn't open Windows correctly, almost had to do a restore point. It finally corrected itself but still said I needed to do an update. I did finally get it done but have problems ever since. Cannot open to my home page via IE. Can however access the internet with Chrome.

Mine updated to 6.0.1000 yesterday which called for a restart to finish. Now when I turn on my computer, I get a brown Avast icon on my desktop for which if I X it out, goes into my Gadgets? What is that all about? I never had that before? I have the orange color shortcut one.

try using this program to uninstall it then install your proper version of MSE (be sure you get the one for your version of windows) free AppRemover utility since it is an xp computer you will need to be sure you do not get the 64 bit option. Security Essentials 4.2.223 XP Please check to make sure he is able to get windows updates and also he is able to create restore points. There is an infection we have seen that causes you not to be able to and it also disables the antivirus so just want to make sure. I would also install and run the free malwarebytes and run a full scan just to be sure. It is a program I think everyone should have on their pc, update an run the scan every couple of weeks. If the link below is the one you are referring to I just went there will no apparent issues. Using MSE but that should make no difference.

Thank you! That is the page I go to. I clicked on your FF site and went in without the warning. Then I went back to my home page and clicked on the one I have on my Favorites Bar and I went in without a problem too.

I think they had a problem which they have fixed. I'm so glad!!

Just as a double check, I went to the site using Chrome and had no problems at all. I also use Avast free. Glad it's okay for you now.
