Never, Ever Heard Of This Problem Before! Help!!!

justme4now

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64BIT

Lots of memory .. Lots of free disk space.

No problem with my Internet Connection and I am almost sure that the problem is not virus or malware related.

(Can't be absolutely sure as you will understand after reading the rest of this post)

I am desperate!

I can't open any of my browsers.

Opening anything such as tools like malwarebytes, revo uninstaller, etc. etc. is iffy!?

There seems to be no logic in what and what will not open.

Some things will open like note pad and CCleaner (From the programs folder) but wont open from the desktop!?
(No longer works)

Malwarebytes launches from the Programs folder but wont launch from the desktop!?
(No longer works either)

None of the browsers will open from the desktop, their respective folders or from the Programs folder!?

I am also getting access denied on a lot of system tools even though I am the Administrator!?

It is odd how I was finally able to get opera to launch.

I was able to get program accessories to open .. went into system tools and launched Windows Easy Transfer (don't ask).

When that window opened up .. I hit cancel and the message Are you Sure You Want To End The Transfer came up.

After clicking yes .. Opera opened!!??
(The Only way to open a browser)

In case anyone asks Hijack this or MiniToolBox wont open either!
(The folder itself will but the app wont launch.)

All of this mess seems to have started with Comodo's Security Suite.

I had installed Comodo's Security Suite and soon after started experiencing multiple hanging startups and shutdowns.

I uninstalled it, installed MSE and Windows Firewall and .. Here I am!

It looks like I may have to do a Destructive Restore if I am to have a functioning pc again?

I only hope that someone will have an idea of what is going on before I jump to such a desperate measure!?
(Can't save copies of photos or other files because system tools or downloaded software won't work)

Thanks Everyone

This seems like the perfect spot to use the Kasperskey Rescue Disk, this is the instructions.

Go here to download the program.

The file is about 300 megs and is an .iso file. Burn it to a CD.

If your computer is not set to seek the CD/DVD drive first on boot up you will need to enter the BIOS to make that happen. Tapping the delete (DEL) key right after the BIOS beep will bring it up on most computers, make the change save and exit.

Place the CD in the drawer and restart. I always use graphics mode. You'll need to pay attention in the first few seconds as there are a couple of spots asking a question. Somewhere amongst a bunch of text is a note telling you to click the A button to proceed but all quite simple really.

It will also ask your permission to visit Kasprersky labs to get the latest definitions updates. Once that is done it will scan your hard drive looking for issues. It is a Linux based program and will not run within Windows, it whole purpose is to inspect the computer with nothing else running. Expect the test to last a minimum of 40 minutes, possibly beyond an hour.

It sounds like a file association problem, where you can't open anything that has an .exe extension.

You can put seed trays or pots in your little greenhouse, but you will then have to provide water for them. You might want to also cover the containers with plastic or place them in plastic bags until they germinate, the extra humidity is very helpful.

    Beans....never heard this before

    Q

    Comments (5)
I ask this question to my Pressure Cooker Yahoo Group and one answer is that the sound is the beans splitting while soaking. No bubbles appeared in my soaking beans, but the popping sounds got a little louder after soaking 4-6 hours. Garbanzo beans may be more prone to fermentation if they soak too long and one person said she soaked her G. beans in the fridge. Mine soaked for 8 hours before I cooked them. I was planning to cook them under pressure, but my cooker manual did not have them listed and said specifically not to cook any beans other than the ones listed in the manual. So, I cooked them in the pressure cooker pot with the lid partly cocked open. After 30 minutes they were done. I was surprised that they tasted really good to me! I usually use G. beans to make hummus, but found a recipe for falafel I wanted to try. The beans I cooked tasted much better than those out of a can. Guess I can never go back now! I plan to freeze some of the beans I cooked last night. Teresa

butt allergies: ever heard of this??

    Q

What goes in, must come out and usually it's not a problem. Sometimes it may be. It's probably, technically an 'irritation' or contact dermatitis rather than an 'allergy.' Painful red rashes anywhere produce even more sensitive skin. Pain relievers in general can help (tylenol, ibuprofen) some. Drinking lots of fluids might help dilute at least certain excretions which may help a bit. Air drying, as little touching as possile except to rinse and maintain hygeine, and possibly something like lanacaine (look in the pharmacy section for products designed for that part of the body, and which are designed to be soothing and pain relieving). When in doubt though, as little touching as possible is likely best. Drinking lots of fluids is going to be a hard sell usually in situations where urination hurts a lot. There are different ways to explain how this works. One visual would be to add food colouring to water, and imagine that colour is what causes the hurt. Double or triple the amount of water and it's easy to see how much less colour there is. Dilution as a concept can work too, if she understands that. Just be very supportive because that first time she might try this, it will require a little leap of faith and trust on her part (and it will probably help and it won't hurt; but it probably will still be painful for her compared to 'normal'). do consider a consultation with the doctor though because sometimes antibiotics are not effective against certain infections and it's hard to know sometimes if that's the case; or if maybe more were required or something

There's really no way of guessing. Could be any of the suggestions made above (single mom, gay couple, etc). Kids often make up their own terms for things--it could be as simple as that. Years ago, a little neighborhood boy used "Mr." for both men and women. My husband and I were both "Mr. Smith" for an entire summer. Oddly, this year, another neighbor child (no relation to the first one) has started calling us "the boy Mr. Smith" and "The girl Mr. Smith"--cute!

Not sure why one would wait "till all else fails". Your choice of course. Normally I like to eliminate the possibility of the bad guys invading first, then look to other avenues knowing the computer is clean.

Apart from the download time it takes mere minutes to burn the CD and get the scan running.

Edit. forgot to include a link to How to check file associations in XP - assuming you are using XP.

I might boot with F8 and look at all the restore points and pick one before the problem started.

If just associations.. Vista64 forums has a tutorial and it shouldn't hurt to download & run the .exe assoc reset...

Here is a link that might be useful: Restore Default Vista File Extension Type Associations

I ran a Western Digital scan tool that said that I have a bad sector that the tool couldn't repair.

Now the question is: What will replace the HD that I have now since it (present drive) is no longer available?

Being Vista it is likely the warranty is up on the hard drive. Your info suggests a 650 gig IDE drive

Do you have the disks to re-install the operating system?

If there is a bad sector the computer usually marks that as bad and it does not get used. Have you ran chkdsk? Look here for Vista instructions to run.

Have run chkdsk and just about every other HD checker I could find.
Some even say that the sectors will be repaired after a new start up ... NOT!

    They fix nothing.

I do have the install disc (came with the pc) and I have a set of restore disks that I made in the beginning.

Not sure what ones I should use?

Problem is .. I need to find a way to save my photos and videos.
    (Ubuntu?)

I guess that all my pro software like snagit and others are gone for good though!

I would not be running anymore hard drive test, you will just possibility cause more damage If in fact the drive is bad.

You never told us if you could boot the computer to safe mode as mikie suggested. Will the computer boot to Safe mode?

"If there is a bad sector the computer usually marks that as bad and it does not get used."

owbist is right, I have bad sectors on mine, my drive still works ok.

The minitoolbox Icon on the desktop, can you right click on it, then choose "Rename" rename it it to miintoolbox .com.

    Then see if it opens.

Renaming didn't help but I learned a trick by accident!

I can use IE and download a tool.
A box from IE pops up asking if I want to save or run the download.

I choose to run it and the tool will download and open.

It won't run after that though.

I didn't know what to select in the minitoolbox menu so I selected what I thought was important?

I can't make sense of any of this!?

OK. I'll only be up for a bit, getting late. Try to get a dds scan here. It's not going to fix anything it's just a scan. I'll check in the am...

Remember you can download Malwarebytes on a flash drive from a good computer, then insert into the bad one and try running it. If you do that don't use the flash drive for anything else meaning don't put in back in the good computer. keep it set aside

    Good luck!

Seems some failure in teh previous boot causing the system files lost or relocation.

You may want to run chkdsk c: to scan the HDD for error first.

    Hope this helps.
