I really like laser printers unless you do color, but if you do a lot they're still cheaper and less hassle than inkjets. I like the space savings of an all-in-one and looked at one at Target. I'm curious about the Kodak printers. They're comparable in price to HP but the ink is much cheaper than others. That's one of their advertisements. Don't know anyone personally who has one but the reviews I've read have been favorable. I have a Brother HP2040 laser and it's great, but of course it's black only. I also have an old Epson inkjet that I bought for $3 at a garage sale but it's not working right - ink dried up from non-use. I go in streaks where I'll print 100 sheets or more in a couple days, then won't print anything for 4 or 5 months. Bought the laser right when I was required to do a lot of printing for work but that changed shortly after I got the printer! But I don't regret getting it. I still have need for faxing on occasion so I would want the fax capability in it, and I think the copier function would be handy. I usually use a scanner and printer for quick copies. And use my XP unit for faxing from the computer on occasion or receiving if need be and I have a fax machine for sending too. Way more than you wanted to know, huh? LOL I'll say this about HP. Generally they're good quality but they have big issues with drivers and software. They can really make a mess out of a machine when things go wrong. I've had to straighten out a lot of units and HP is far more problematic in this regard than others. However, when they work properly they're usually pretty good units. But from my experiences I'd personally avoid them. I'd rather work on their problems when I'm billing for it rather than my own time.

Yes, I knew there were expiration dates on ink (there's expiration dates on many things people wouldn't necessarily think about, peroxide & alcohol are just a couple) and there's also good and bad ways to store ink. You don't want to stockpile too much. I was looking in the store at the ink cartridges and wasn't surprised that the rotation wasn't maintained. Won't name the store. A couple people go crazy when it's mentioned. So watch when you buy too. Also, many if not most have a chip inside them to say they're out of ink before they actually are. They have to declare how much ink is in a cartridge but not how much you can actually use. On my Epson, there's a little reset switch. It gave me the message that it was out of ink. I pushed the reset and looky here, all of a sudden there's ink in there again! How it works varies from printer to printer but usually look around the electrical connection and there might be the little spot to poke a paper clip. The maddening part is that it has to cost more to put the electronics in there than it costs for the ink but they keep you buying it.

Ok...let me take these questions in order....LOL Mare wbpa I do not have to use Kodak paper, but if I use any paper other than Kodak I have to run a test print to do the setup to match the printer to the paper, but that test page is common to all the other printers I have ever used. The advantage with the kodak paper is that kodak has printed a bar code on the back side of the paper that is read by the printer and it automatically does the setup. For my purposes that is extremely handy because I often switch from Glossy, to Ultra-glossy or Matt and I don't have to mess with test prints, just pop in the paper I want and it works perfect. I find that at Staples there is a substantial difference in price between the kodak paper and the HP or generic, but at Walmart the Kodak 100 sheet pack of 4x6 paper is about $8 which is about $1 more than the HP amd the 8.5 x 11 is about $3 more per 100 sheets and believe it or not, the price of photo paper at walmart is cheaper than what you can find on ebay. Now in regards to print quality. I have on three occassions printed 6 prints on this printer, then had the same prints printed at Walmart photo center & staples photo center, then we laid the prints out side by side to see which looked better, and in all instances even the photo techs running the photo centers agreed they like the kodak prints better. jasdip,,, I don't know what model of kodak printer your stepfather has, but I have the kodak ESP 7250 all in one, printer scanner and I have never encountered any problem with the printer stopping, In fact, I have printed right down to were a print comes out missing the black or one of the colors. The printer does have a service monitor that keeps track of the ink level and when a cartridge gets down to 1/3 it will post a popup window that informs you that it is low on ink and reminding you to order a new cartridge, but it does not stop printing. For plain paper copies I don't buy printer paper. I buy the cheap $2.50/ream copier paper and when I print a document that has a photo the photo even comes out looking good on the cheap copier paper. Another thing I really like is that the ink is completely dry and the photos are ready to handle as soon as they come out of the printer. Another thing I like is that this printer has two paper trays..you can put 4x6 or 5x7 in the top tray and 8x10 or 8.5x11 in the bottom tray and you just select the size of print you want when you send the photo to the printer.

When you're on a webpage that you want to print, In the browser click file, click print preview, adjust the scale setting and experiment with the scale settings. That's how mine works, Brother printer
