After watering everyday, keeping the shade over my poor Black Jack fig tree, it is showing signs of new life! My Angel Red pomegranate that was planted the same day did the exact same thing. They basically shed 90% of their leaves to help deal with transplant shock. After some TLC for two weeks, they both put out healthy new growth! Here're some photos of the fig tree with new growth. But there are lots of these tiny flies around the tree. Could they be fig whitefly? Here's some photos of my Angel Red that did the exact same thing. Again, I am so glad that I got lots of advise on here for care of my fig tree. But I also have learned from this experience that the plants are pretty smart and does what it needs to cope with the transplant shock if you give them some additional support like water and some shade. I have learned to not freak out as soon as I see the tree drop their leaves when I first plant them, and learn that with proper care they will put out new growth when it is ready.

I was just at Universal Studios for spring break! Just got back home a minute before midnight on Easter! I enjoyed the landscaping just as much as the rides and shows! It's like a botanical garden in a way but most of the plants are not labeled. I was amazed by the size of the sengal date palms! It has so many large trunks. Does anyone have any guess to how old they are? There was also an odd looking smaller tree near (next too) the pond with the tropical lily pads in Jurassic park that I thought was neat. It had no or very few leafs and a few exotic flowers that were white with very stringy petals. I wish I knew the name of that one. The star (confederate) jasmine plants planted at the edges of the parking garages smelled amazing (to me anyway) when on the moving walk way. I also noticed a few sago palms with ripe nuts in the planting near all the flags by the animal show and E.T. ride. The sagos looked very strange. The nuts had brown fuzz all over them. I thought that was intriguing. I wonder what the purpose of the fuzz is. T.J.

nancy - it's great! the first morning tho I forgot about it being there and was confused not to see the sky out my window! I was half asleep still (still in bed) - my curtain in the bedroom is always partially pulled back. if you know the cost of the product - and the price of it being put down then you'll know what you are being charged for the carpet pull up and plywood. maybe someone could do it for a better price (the carpet and plywood). I'm sure you'll love it with the carpet out - that's what I'm hoping to do. depends on the prices tho.

This is my first year growing entirely in containers. I live in Los Angeles and my yard only allows me to grow in one area since trees from neighbor's yard shadows the rest of the yard. I've been growing in the same spot for 15 years and as much as I amend the soil every year, the soil needed a rest, so I'm growing in containers for a couple of years while I continue to replenish the soil's nutrients. I guess I got a little overzealous with the feeding.... I'll pull back a bit. The damage isn't too bad, so I think with a few waterings I'll be able to correct the over fert situation. This is good to know!! Thanks for the info Jean and Gor. I think I might switch to a liquid fert like Neptune's Harvest which has a lower NPK but still has necessary minerals. Thoughts?
