I am wondering if I might have the same problem. I attemped an update with restart yesterday. Later in the day my computer wouldn't open Windows correctly, almost had to do a restore point. It finally corrected itself but still said I needed to do an update. I did finally get it done but have problems ever since. Cannot open to my home page via IE. Can however access the internet with Chrome.

Bear in mind that my experience is only with free Avast, NOT paid Avast. The Software Updater is useful ONLY to notify you which of your programs need to be updated. I WOULD NOT use SU to update your programs because Avast uses something called OPEN CANDY and as a result you might see offers to purchase other software based on your usage patterns and what is already installed on your system. Some folks regard it as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). I doubt that it is harmful but it is a potential nuisance. Avast uses it as a chance to make some $ while they are offering you free virus protection (and that has worked pretty well for me so far). I prefer to do my updates manually and that's not a problem for me. I still get occasional offers to purchase other things but I suspect I would get more if I allowed Open Candy to do so by using the SU. The Browser Cleanup tool is another example of something Avast offers of dubious usefulness. I would NOT use it but as always, YMMV. Owbist, than you for the valuable suggestions you have given me in the past. You wondered why I do manual updates rather than automatic. I remember only too well the "old days" when updates often caused problems after installation. I learned it was better to check here first before updating. Someone here usually knew about the problem (probably learned the hard way!) which gave me the chance to wait until the problem was solved. Since I turn the PC on only about once a week, manual updates work fine. Incidently, in case there are any more "Nervous Nellies" like me who are concerned about inadvertantly getting Avast's paid version, there is an option given about three steps into the update. And I kept my eyes open for that other stuff Avast wanted to install that you warned about. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. Cheers, J .

Paint a neutral color. I would think cream since you have warmer tones and hire a crew to do a super deep clean. If there are any obvious broken stuff like switch plates or whatever, then replace because people will assume a place hasn't been maintained well if they see broken stuff. I live in a high rise and recently two almost identical apartments were sold - same size and layout and both were going to need serious updating. One person did nothing but paint and got $50,000 more than the person who did nothing. Both places really needed gut remodels in kitchen and baths and the one that sold for $50,000 more even had terrible water damage on the floors so that it would have to be replaced quite obviously. You are never going to be able to actually upgrade so that it looks 2023 so why bother to do anything since you are going to attract a buyer who either wants to redo to their own taste OR who is happy to get a functional home for less money than it would be if it were remodeled.
